A Clean and Selective Radical Homocoupling Employing Carboxylic Acids with Titania Photoredox Catalysis

open access: yes, 2014
A titania photoredox catalysis protocol was developed for the homocoupling of C-centered radicals derived from carboxylic acids. Intermolecular reactions were generally efficient and selective, furnishing the desired dimers in good yields under mild ...

Understanding the mechanism of Pd-catalyzed allylic substitution of the cyclic difluorinated carbonates

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2008
We present a mechanistic investigation of Pd-catalyzed allylic substitution of cyclic gem-difluorinated carbonates 1 and 4, previously employed in the synthesis of 3',3'-difluoro-2'-hydroxymethyl-4',5'-unsaturated carbocyclic nucleosides in 17 steps. The

ML Workflows for Screening Degradation‐Relevant Properties of Forever Chemicals

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The environmental persistence of per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) necessitates efficient remediation strategies. This study presents physics‐informed machine learning workflows that accurately predict critical degradation properties, including bond dissociation energies and polarizability.

Enantioselective nucleophilic difluoromethylation of aromatic aldehydes with Me3SiCF2SO2Ph and PhSO2CF2H reagents catalyzed by chiral quaternary ammonium salts

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2008
BackgroundAlthough the nucleophilic difluoromethylation of aldehydes, ketones, and imines has been realized with PhSO2CF2H and related reagents, there are still no reports on the enantioselective nucleophilic reactions.ResultsWith a chiral quaternary ...

Photocatalytic Synthesis of Pentafluorosulfanyl Ketones, Acetals, and BCP Motifs Utilizing SF6

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A photocatalytic single electron reduction strategy is reported for the activation and valorization of sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), a potent greenhouse gas. Under mild conditions, SF6 is reduced to generate pentafluorosulfanyl (SF5) radicals, enabling direct access to pentafluorosulfanyl ketones, acetals, and BCP motifs.

Adsorption of Forever Chemical Pollutants: The Physical Chemistry of PFAS Near Surfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Current adsorption‐based remediation techniques for removing per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from water are limited by knowledge gaps on PFAS behavior near solid surfaces. This review provides a state of the art on theoretical and experimental aspects of PFAS adsorption.

Fluorous Reverse Phase Silica Gel. A New Tool for Preparative Separations in Synthetic Organic and Organofluorine Chemistry

open access: yes, 2001
Fluorous reverse phase silica gel, or silica gel with a fluorocarbon bonded phase, can be readily prepared by standard techniques, but shows unusual separation features. This silica gel separates primarily by fluorine content.
