Leaves and Seeds as Materials for Flow Cytometric Estimation of the Genome Size of 11 Rosaceae Woody Species Containing DNA‐Staining Inhibitors

open access: yesJournal of Botany, Volume 2010, Issue 1, 2010., 2010
The presence of some secondary metabolites in the cell cytosol can cause a stoichiometric error in the flow cytometric estimation of nuclear DNA content. There is no fully reliable method to completely eliminate the effect of these compounds on nuclei fluorescence, and therefore using plant organs/parts free of staining inhibitors is recommended ...

Conserved cold tolerance of Rhagoletis species from different host fruits and elevations in Colorado, USA

open access: yesPhysiological Entomology, Volume 49, Issue 3, Page 216-226, September 2024.
R. pomonella (apple maggot fly) and R. basiola (rosehip fly) from Colorado overwinter as freeze‐avoidant pupae, surviving temperatures near −20°C. R. basiola populations from elevations of c. 1650 and c. 2900 m a.s.l. have similar cold tolerance, although high‐elevation pupae are smaller. R.
