Predicting Mammal Species Suitable for Chagas Disease Spread Using a Machine‐Learning Framework

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Chagas disease is maintained in wildlife by Trypanosoma cruzi cycling among many mammal species, but we still do not know the full range of potential hosts. Using machine learning and ecological/behavioral traits, we found that kissing bugs overlap with 573 mammal species and tend to feed on mammals that are den‐dwelling, medium‐to‐large in size, and ...

The dual crisis: Climate change simultaneously drives pollinator decline and pest outbreaks

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
Climate change acts as an asymmetric ecological filter, favouring r‐selected pest traits (rapid reproduction, generalism) while disadvantaging K‐selected pollinators. For every 1°C of warming, bee species richness declines ~25% since the 1990s, while pest‐induced crop losses increase by 10%–25%. A network‐centric approach integrating climate‐responsive
