IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Towards polarisation-encoded quantum key distribution in optical fibre networks

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Science, 2015
Quantum key distribution – a process that encodes digital information – often utilises fibre optic technologies for commercial applications. Fibre provides the benefit of a dark channel as well as the convenience of independence of a line-of-sight ...

Duality Preserving Gray Maps for Codes over Rings

open access: yes, 2016
Given a finite ring $A$ which is a free left module over a subring $R$ of $A$, two types of $R$-bases, pseudo-self-dual bases (similar to trace orthogonal bases) and symmetric bases, are defined which in turn are used to define duality preserving maps ...

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Curl-conforming hierarchical vector bases for triangles and tetrahedra

open access: yes, 2011
A new family of hierarchical vector bases is proposed for triangles and tetrahedra. These functions span the curl-conforming reduced-gradient spaces of Nédélec.

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Non-Intrusive Reduced-Order Modeling Based on Parametrized Proper Orthogonal Decomposition

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
A new non-intrusive reduced-order modeling method based on space-time parameter decoupling for parametrized time-dependent problems is proposed. This method requires the preparation of a database comprising high-fidelity solutions.

State Orthogonalization by Building a Hilbert Space: A New Approach to Electronic Quantum Transport in Molecular Wires

open access: yes, 1998
Quantum descriptions of many complex systems are formulated most naturally in bases of states that are not mutually orthogonal. We introduce a general and powerful yet simple approach that facilitates solving such models exactly by embedding the non ...

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Existence and Construction of Tangential and Anisotropic Bases in Finite-Dimensional Quadratic Spaces

open access: yesMathematics
This paper studies the existence and construction of bases consisting of tangential and anisotropic vectors in finite-dimensional quadratic spaces over fields of characteristic different from two.
