Dual-color oligo-FISH can reveal chromosomal variations and evolution in Oryza species.

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, 2019
Fluorescence in situ hybridization using probes based on oligonucleotides (oligo-FISH) is a useful tool for chromosome identification and karyotype analysis.

Autopolyploidization‐Induced Chromatin Remodeling Regulates Leaf Size Variation in Brassica rapa

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that monoploid, diploid, and autotetraploid Brassica rapa lines derived from the same genome exhibit distinct leaf morphology. Ploidy changes remodel chromatin accessibility and histone modifications to regulate gene expression, while key transcription factors BrGRF13 and BrARF11 control leaf size and polarity, driving ...

Insect I‐Type Lysozymes Function as Antiviral Proteases by Forming Biomolecular Condensates

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Upon rice viral infection, the insect vector activates the Toll–MyD88–Dorsal signaling cascade, inducing i‐type lysozyme (Lyz‐I1) expression. Lyz‐I1 functions as an antiviral protease through its conserved catalytic dyad Glu/Asp (E/D), mediating cleavage of viral proteins at specific Lys (K) residues.

In-silico analysis of cis-acting regulatory elements of pathogenesis-related proteins of Arabidopsis thaliana and Oryza sativa

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Pathogenesis related (PR) proteins are low molecular weight family of proteins induced in plants under various biotic and abiotic stresses. They play an important role in plant-defense mechanism.

RNAi Regulator C3PO Promotes Arbovirus Infection in Insect Vectors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
RNA interference (RNAi) is vital for eukaryotes to defend against virus infection. The C3PO complex takes part in RNAi but its role in regulating viral infection remains unclear. This work finds that insect C3PO facilitates arbovirus replication by degrading precursors of miRNAs, especially miR‐971‐3p.

Genome‐Wide Association Analyses Reveal the Genetic Basis of EMS Mutagenesis Efficiency in Rice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Based on large‐scale screening of 420 rice accessions, GWAS identified the Rc locus as a key regulator of EMS mutagenesis efficiency. Functional Rc alleles enhance both seed survival and genome‐wide mutation frequency by boosting antioxidant enzyme activities (CAT, SOD, POD) and reducing oxidative damage.

Epidermal Cell Dynamics Regulates Rice Lamina Joint Morphogenesis and Leaf Angle Formation through OsZHD1 and OsZHD2 Regulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The lamina joint determines leaf angle and plant architecture. Xu et al. establish a live‐imaging system for the rice lamina joint and reveal that asymmetric epidermal cell elongation and division between the lateral and medial edges drive leaf angle formation.

Transposable element distribution, abundance and role in genome size variation in the genus Oryza

open access: yesBMC Evolutionary Biology, 2007
Background The genus Oryza is composed of 10 distinct genome types, 6 diploid and 4 polyploid, and includes the world's most important food crop – rice (Oryza sativa [AA]). Genome size variation in the Oryza is more than 3-fold and ranges from 357 Mbp in
