Intercellular Ca2+ signaling in primary cultures of glial cells was investigated with digital fluorescence video imaging. Mechanical stimulation of a single cell induced a wave of increased [Ca2+]i that was communicated to surrounding cells. This was followed by asynchronous Ca2+ oscillations in some cells.

Role of mitochondria in Ca2+ oscillations and shape of Ca2+ signals in pancreatic acinar cells
Biochemical Pharmacology, 2002We studied the role of mitochondria in Ca(2+) signals in fura-2 loaded exocrine pancreatic acinar cells. Mitochondrial depolarization in response to carbonylcyanide-p-tryfluoromethoxyphenyl hydrazone or rotenone (assessed by confocal microscopy using rhodamine-123) induced a partial but statistically significant reduction in the decay of Ca(2+) signals

Cell Stem Cell
Stem cells are known for their resilience and enhanced activity post-stress. The mammary gland undergoes frequent remodeling and is subjected to recurring stress during the estrus cycle, but it remains unclear how mammary stem cells (MaSCs) respond to the stress and contribute to regeneration.

Modelling of simple and complex calcium oscillations
European Journal of Biochemistry, 2002This review provides a comparative overview of recent developments in the modelling of cellular calcium oscillations. A large variety of mathematical models have been developed for this wide‐spread phenomenon in intra‐ and intercellular signalling. From these, a general model is extracted that involves six types of concentration variables: inositol 1,4,

Oscillating two-dimensional Ca2+ waves in cell networks with bidirectional paracrine signaling
Waves in Random and Complex Media, 2019Nonlinear excitations of Ca2+ waves are investigated in a two-dimensional cell network with bidirectional paracrine signaling, both in the longitudinal and transversal directions.

Fast synaptic transmission between olfactory receptor neurons and mitral cells (MCs) is mediated through AMPA and NMDA ionotropic glutamate receptors. MCs also express high levels of metabotropic glutamate receptor 1 (mGluR1) whose functional significance is less understood.

Regulation of Cell Division Cycles by Circadian Oscillators: Signal Transduction Between Clocks
1997An important consideration for maximizing the results of radio- and chemotherapy of mammalian cancers is that of host tolerance. It is unfortunate that in most of the earlier cancer work there is little mention of the role of rhythmic variations (particularly circadian periodicities) in the susceptibility of the whole organism to the toxicity of the ...

Results: In full-thickness human ileum, anti-CdtB was specific for ICC and ganglia, based on colocalization of anti-CdtB with anti-c-kit, PGP 9.5 and S-100 (see figure). Thus antiCdtB appeared to interact with a human protein on ICCs and ganglia. Based on immunoprecipitation, a protein band was identified at 117kDa. Using mass spectroscopy this protein

Oscillatory shear stress (OSS) occurs in areas where atherosclerosis is prevalent. Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) has been associated with mechanical-stress-mediated activation of signalling pathways that may lead to inflammation, apoptosis, and atherosclerosis.
