Thermotolerant D‐Hydantoinases for Efficient and Stereoselective Intermediate Synthesis of (R)‐3‐Isobutylglutaric Acid Monoamide, a Key Intermediate in Pregabalin Production

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 19, Issue 3, March 2026.
We engineered thermo‐alkali‐stable D‐hydantoinases via mutagenesis (M63A/F65H/C317T) to resolve Pregabalin's challenging chiral splitting, achieving ee value > 97% for key intermediate (R)‐3‐isobutylglutaric acid monoamide (R‐IBM) synthesis under extreme conditions (pH 10, 70°C–80°C).

Five years of monitoring for the emergence of oseltamivir resistance in patients with influenza A infections in the Influenza Resistance Information Study (IRIS) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background and Objectives: The Influenza Resistance Information Study (IRIS) was initiated in 2008 to study the emergence of neuraminidase inhibitor (NAI) resistance and the clinical course of influenza in immunocompetent treated and untreated patients.

Symptoms Associated With Detection of Viral Versus Bacterial Pathogens in Outpatients With Lower Respiratory Infections

open access: yesInfluenza and Other Respiratory Viruses, Volume 20, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Purpose This study aims to identify symptoms that predict a high likelihood of viral infection, so these patients could be triaged for home care to avoid antibiotics. Methods We recruited adults presenting to US primary or urgent care sites with a chief complaint of cough and symptoms consistent with LRTI. Data collected included demographics,

Current and evolving approaches for improving the oral permeability of BCS Class III or analogous molecules [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The Biopharmaceutics Classification System (BCS) classifies pharmaceutical compounds based on their aqueous solubility and intestinal permeability. The BCS Class III compounds are hydrophilic molecules (high aqueous solubility) with low permeability ...

Influenza-associated mortality in hospital care: a retrospective cohort study of risk factors and impact of oseltamivir in an English teaching hospital, 2016 to 2017

open access: yesEuro surveillance : bulletin Europeen sur les maladies transmissibles = European communicable disease bulletin, 2019
Background Evidence of an oseltamivir treatment effect on influenza A(H3N2) virus infections in hospitalised patients is incomplete. Aims This cohort study aimed to evaluate risk factors for death among PCR-confirmed hospitalised cases of seasonal ...

Persistent Leukoencephalopathy Following H1N1 Infection Associated With a Novel MYRF Variant (p.Gly735Asp)

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, Volume 13, Issue 2, Page 405-412, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Mutations in myelin regulatory factor (MYRF) are linked to demyelinating disorders. We report a 38‐year‐old male who developed acute symmetric leukoencephalopathy mimicking a stroke following an influenza A virus infection. While clinical symptoms markedly improved with corticosteroids, MRI revealed persistent white matter lesions, contrasting

Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 and Seasonal Influenza A (H1N1) Co-infection, New Zealand, 2009

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2010
Co-infection with seasonal influenza A (H1N1) and pandemic (H1N1) 2009 could result in reassortant viruses that may acquire new characteristics of transmission, virulence, and oseltamivir susceptibility.

Novel N-Substituted oseltamivir derivatives as potent influenza neuraminidase inhibitors: Design, synthesis, biological evaluation, ADME prediction and molecular docking studies.

open access: yesEuropean journal of medicinal chemistry, 2019
The discovery of novel potent neuraminidase (NA) inhibitors remains an attractive approach for treating infectious diseases caused by influenza. In this study, we describe the design and synthesis of novel N-substituted oseltamivir derivatives for ...
