Numerical analysis of cartilage surfaces for osteoarthritis diagnosis using field and feature parameters

open access: yes, 2011
Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most common degenerative wear diseases of knee joints worldwide. Within knee joint articular cartilage (AC), collagen structure losing integrity is a major symptom of OA.

Effects of a Custom-Made Hinged Knee Brace with Knee Flexion Support for Patients with Knee Osteoarthritis: A Preliminary Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
2015-02A knee brace for medial knee osteoarthritis (OA) is required to restrict knee adduction moment (KAM), but must not restrict knee flexion during swing phase. There is no report of a knee brace with both functions.

Diclofenac solution (Pennsaid) in the management of osteoarthritis of the knee : Patient implications

open access: yes, 2009
Topical diclofenac sodium (pennsaid) is a non-steroidal-anti- inflammatory drug that is used to manage the recurrent pain and symptoms of osteoarthritis of the knee. Pennsaid is applied topically, absorbed cutaneously and concentrates locally at the site

Managing osteoarthritis of the knee [PDF]

open access: yesBMJ, 2004
A slightly swollen and aching knee. Walking is difficult, the stairs are almost impossible, and so begins the downward spiral of inactivity, immobility, and weight gain. Osteoarthritis of the knee is a familiar picture, presenting usually when it is too painful to ignore but too early for surgery.

Lesion Site‐Targeted Microspheres Modulate Nav1.7‐Related Signaling for Osteoarthritis Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cartilage‐targeted carbamazepine‐loaded WYRGRL‐modified composite microspheres (CBZ/WCOM) anchor to exposed type II collagen in osteoarthritic lesions and release carbamazepine under acidic conditions. This bind‐then‐release platform modulates Nav1.7‐related sodium signaling, Na⁺/Ca²⁺ exchanger‐associated Ca2+ dynamics, and heat shock protein 70 ...

Mechanical Activation of Piezo1 Drives Osteoarthritis Through Kdm5c‐Mediated Epigenetic Silencing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Excessive mechanical stress activates Piezo1, triggering Ca2+‐dependent cytoskeletal forces that deform the nucleus and reduce H3K4me3. Kdm5c demethylates H3K4me3 at Col2a1 and Runx3 promoters. Kdm5c knockout rescues degradation. Repurposed telmisartan directly inhibits Kdm5c, blocking this axis and showing disease‐modifying efficacy in mouse OA models

Physical Activity and the Role of Walking in Knee Osteoarthritis

open access: yes, 2023
Walking is recommended as a type of physical activity for individuals with knee osteoarthritis, yet this population is physically inactive. The quantitative effects of walking exercise on joint health to inform walking prescription remain poorly ...
