Insulin and osteocalcin: further evidence for a mutual cross-talk

open access: yesEndocrine, 2017
PurposeIn the last few years, bone has been recognized as an endocrine organ that modulates glucose metabolism by secretion of osteocalcin, an osteoblast-specific hormone, that influences fat deposition and blood sugar levels.

Recent Advances in Cryogel Applications for Musculoskeleatal Regeneration

open access: yesMedicinal Research Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hydrogels have been widely used in tissue engineering due to their high‐water content and biocompatibility, yet their densely cross‐linked microstructure inherently limits cell infiltration, mass transport, and mechanical support. Cryogels, formed through partial freezing and crosslinking under subzero conditions, provide unique 3D macroporous

Relationships between the Osteocalcin gene polymorphisms, serum osteocalcin levels, and hepatitis B virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma in a Chinese population. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Available evidence has demonstrated that osteocalcin may play a role in pathogenesis of cancer, and mutation of the osteocalcin gene may be involved in the cancer development.

Musculoskeletal Outcomes of Glucagon‐Like Peptide‐1 Receptor Agonists Versus Other Antiobesity Agents in Nondiabetic Adults

open access: yesObesity, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective This study aimed to evaluate the association of glucagon‐like peptide‐1 receptor agonists (GLP‐1 RAs) with risks of osteoporosis, major osteoporotic fractures, and degenerative musculoskeletal disorders in nondiabetic adults with obesity compared with other obesity medications.

Evidence map and gap analysis of metabolic change in pediatric growth hormone deficiency treated with growth hormone

open access: yesPediatric Investigation, EarlyView.
This evidence map of 63 studies (n = 6158) showed growth hormone therapy in children with growth hormone deficiency has neutral glucose effects, mixed lipid outcomes, potential benefits for bone mineral density, bone mineral content, and parathyroid hormone, but generally no impact on thyroid function, body composition, or body mass index.

Supplementary Material for: Associations of Serum Osteocalcin and Polymorphisms of the Osteocalcin Gene with Bone Mineral Density in Postmenopausal and Elderly Chinese Women [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background: The aims of this study were: (1) to evaluate the association of serum osteocalcin with bone mineral density (BMD) and markers of bone metabolism in postmenopausal and elderly Chinese women, and (2) to observe the relationships of single ...

Hierarchical Peptide Functionalized Titania Nanotubes: Improving Stability, Promoting Osteogenesis, and Reducing Infection Risk

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
The study demonstrates a dual‐level modification of titania nanotube surfaces through the covalent grafting of Fmoc‐FF dipeptides, followed by a secondary self‐assembled layer of FF dipeptide. This hierarchical strategy significantly enhances coating density and structural integrity without compromising the nano‐topographical and biochemical cues ...

Innovative 3D‐bioprinted microfibers in calcium phosphate cement platform with Nell‐1 to activate nerve‐bone axis for synergistic bone, vasculature, and nanofibrous nerve regeneration

open access: yesSmart Molecules, EarlyView.
A 3D‐bioprinted platform with stem cells activates “nerve‐bone” signaling by enabling the spatiotemporal delivery of Nell‐1. This activation enhances neurovascular and bone regeneration through the CYFIP1 cascade. In rat calvarial defects, the platform doubled bone regeneration and nerve repair and tripled vascular density, resulting in superior ...
