Osteoprotegerin

2003
Bone loss is associated with several diseases, most notably rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Focal bone erosions appear to be a very early feature of RA and are associated with disease severity and long-term functional impairment, making targeted therapy for focal bone erosion an important goal of treatment.

Osteoprotegerin as a potential therapy for osteoporosis

Current Osteoporosis Reports, 2005
The discovery and characterization of the RANKL/RANK/OPG signaling pathway and the identification of its role in the pathogenesis of bone loss have provided the rationale for the development of drugs with the ability to modulate RANK-induced osteoclastogenesis.

Osteoprotegerin in Cardiovascular Disease: Ally or Enemy?

Current Pharmaceutical Design, 2014
The OPG/RANK/RANKL axis is now recognized as a master regulator of bone remodeling, controlling osteoclast's maturation and extracellular matrix calcification. Nevertheless, a number of clinical and basic science studies conducted in the last few years demonstrated that the triad could be also involved in several physiological and pathological ...

Osteoprotegerin and inflammation.

European cytokine network, 2003
RANK, RANKL, and OPG have well established regulatory effects on bone metabolism. RANK is expressed at very high levels on osteoclastic precursors and on mature osteoclasts, and is required for differentiation and activation of the osteoclast. The ligand, RANKL binds to its receptor RANK to induce bone resorption.

Heritability of serum osteoprotegerin.

Annals of human genetics, 2011
Serum osteoprotegerin (OPG) level is a key biomarker for numerous traits of clinical importance like diabetes, coronary artery disease, blood pressure, lipid profile, and cancers, but its genetic basis remains poorly understood. We estimated the heritability (h(2)) of serum OPG level in 1442 southern Chinese subjects from 306 families.
