Massive mortality outbreaks have been reported in France since 2008 among Pacific oysters, Crassostrea gigas, with the detection of a particular OsHV-1 variant called μVar. Novel RNA viruses in oysters revealed by virome
Eighteen novel RNA viruses were found in Crassostrea hongkongensis. Phylogenic analysis shows evidence of recombination between major genes of viruses. Picobirnaviruses are ubiquitous and abundant in oysters.
