On properties and constructions of t -designs, lambda -designs and perpendicular arrays

open access: yes, 1991
Combinatorial configurations have significant applications in many areas, such as in the design of experiments, coding theory, computer architecture, and information storage and retrieval. In this work, we will concentrate on three types of combinatorial

The pyruvate generator is a common phenomenon in mitochondria from different rat and mouse brain regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The pyruvate generator, which causes activation of respiration by extra‐mitochondrial Ca2+, is also present and functional in rat brainstem mitochondria, as it is in other brain regions. This finding is confirmed by experiments with a fully reconstituted malate–aspartate shuttle (MAS).

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Finite linear spaces consisting of two symmetric configurations

open access: yes, 2005
We investigate finite linear spaces consisting of two symmetric configurations. A construction method using projective planes is presented, giving a possibly infinite number of examples.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Optimising Ecological and Engineering Values in Coastal Protection via Combined Oyster Shell and Sand Bag Designs

open access: yes, 2017
The increasing popularity of eco-engineering and living shorelines has seen oyster reefs suggested as a natural solution to erosion in low to moderate energy estuarine environments.
