Plasmid-Encoded Outer Membrane Protein YadA Mediates Specific Binding of Enteropathogenic Yersiniae to Various Types of Collagen [PDF]
The plasmid-encoded outer membrane protein YadA of enteropathogenic yersiniae is associated with pathogenicity. Recently, collagen binding of YadA-positive yersiniae was reported without detailed characterization (L. Emödy, J. Heesemann, H. Wolf-Watz, M.

Discovery of new biosynthetic pathways: the lipid A story
The outer monolayer of the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria consists of the lipid A component of lipopolysaccharide (LPS), a glucosamine-based saccharolipid that is assembled on the inner surface of the inner membrane.

Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 (MMP9) drives ovarian cancer progression. Using MMP9‐null cells (M9‐KO) created from ovarian cancer cells, we found MMP9 loss did not block Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)‐driven E‐cadherin dissolution or EMT but delayed and reduced EGF‐driven membrane protrusions. Transient MMP9 re‐expression drove membrane protrusion.

The ability of Gram-negative bacteria to carefully modulate outer membrane (OM) composition is essential to their survival. However, the asymmetric and heterogeneous structure of the Gram-negative OM poses unique challenges to the cell’s successful ...

Architectures of lipid transport systems for the bacterial outer membrane
How phospholipids are trafficked between the bacterial inner and outer membranes through the intervening hydrophilic space of the periplasm is not known.

Cytosolically synthesized chloroplast preproteins are translocated across the outer and inner envelope membranes through translocons called TOC and TIC, respectively. In green algae and plants, the TIC core is composed of essential membrane proteins, Tic12, Tic20, and Tic214.

The frequency of Chlamydia trachomatis major outer membrane protein-specific CD8+ T lymphocytes in active trachoma is associated with current ocular infection. [PDF]
Chlamydia-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes are able to control model infections but may be implicated in disease pathogenesis. HLA-A2 peptide tetramers to Chlamydia trachomatis major outer membrane protein 258-266 (MOMP258-266) and MOMP260-268 were used ...

Outer membrane protein assembly mediated by BAM-SurA complexes
The outer membrane is a formidable barrier that protects Gram-negative bacteria against environmental threats. Its integrity requires the correct folding and insertion of outer membrane proteins (OMPs) by the membrane-embedded β-barrel assembly machinery

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...
