Outer planets satellites

Reviews of Geophysics, 1983
During the four years 1979–1982, studies of the satellites of the outer planets matured into a major branch of planetology, largely in consequence of seven spacecraft encounters with the Jovian and Saturnian systems. Previously these objects had been investigated only by a small group of planetary astronomers, and few planetologists recognized their ...

Outer-planet probe/flyby missions

21st Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 1983
Results are presented for preliminary studies of low-cost outer-planet probe/flyby missions. The scientific rationale for such missions is discussed, along with possible mission modes, spacecraft concepts, launch-vehicle options, and a recommended set of outer-planet missions.

OUTER PLANET SATELLITES

Reviews of Geophysics, 1991
Recent findings on the outer-planet satellites are presented, with special consideration given to data on the rheologic properties of ice on icy satellites, the satellite surfaces and exogenic processes, cratering on dead cratered satellites, volcanism, and the interiors of outer-planet satellites.

Outer planet satellite ephemeris development

Astrodynamics Conference, 1972
Discussion of the possible effectiveness of an earth-based ephemeris development program for the outer planet natural satellites. Technologies for obtaining and reducing photographic plates are available and new satellite theories needed for data processing are being developed.

Planet Nine from Outer Space

Scientific American, 2016
The article discusses astronomical speculation about the existence of an unknown planet beyond Pluto in the solar system. Emphasis is given to topics such as planetary formation, scattering of the planet due to gravitational interaction with Jupiter or Saturn, and scientific research on calculating the orbit of the super Earth-like planet.

Outer Planets and Satellites

1993
In contrast with the rocky planets, the gaseous planets beyond the Asteroid Belt consist of a rocky core mantled by thick ices of water, methane, and ammonia, liquid metallic hydrogen, and liquid molecular hydrogen (Hartmann 1983, p. 294). Jupiter may be experiencing an anomalously slow cooling because of condensation and settling of helium-rich ...

Atmospheric dynamics of the outer planets

Science, 1990
Despite major differences in the solar and internal energy inputs, the atmospheres of the four Jovian planets all exhibit latitudinal banding and high-speed jet streams. Neptune and Saturn are the windiest planets, Jupiter is the most active, and Uranus is a tipped-over version of the others.
