Aquaporin‐3 and aquaporin‐5 impact the development of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma spheroids

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Schematic representation of the role of aquaporin‐3 (AQP3) and aquaporin‐5 (AQP5) in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Both proteins are upregulated in PDAC and are associated with tumor progression and metastatic potential. Silencing AQP3 or AQP5 in PDAC spheroids results in decreased diameter, area, and overall growth, underscoring their key ...

Eating planets makes you younger: The magnetic dynamo rejuvenation of GJ 504 by planetary engulfment

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. With the discovery of a few thousand exoplanets, questions have been raised regarding star-planet interactions and whether the presence of a companion may affect stellar properties. GJ 504 is an excellent target in this context. This evolved (∼2

Directed evolution of enzymes at the crossroads of tradition and innovation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An iterative cycle of data‐driven enzyme optimization comprising four stages: genetic diversification of a template enzyme, expression of protein variants, high‐throughput evaluation, and machine‐learning‐guided redesign of the next variant library.

Nested, asymmetric H–He circumstellar shells in the Type Icn/Ibn SN 2024abvb

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. Interacting transients probe mass loss in the final stages of stellar evolution; however, the geometry and timing of multi-episode mass loss remain poorly constrained.

Formation of Neutral Disk-Like Zone Around the Active Hot Stars in Symbiotic Binaries

open access: yesOpen Astronomy, 2012
In this contribution we present the ionization structure in the enhanced wind from the hot star in symbiotic binaries during active phases. Rotation of the hot star leads to the compression of the outflowing material towards its equatorial plane.

Hyperactive ice‐binding proteins stabilize cell membranes and improve resistance to dehydration stress in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.

APEX survey of interstellar HCl

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. Despite being only the nineteenth most abundant element in the interstellar medium, chlorine’s reactivity and volatility give rise to a unique interstellar chemistry, favouring the formation of several chlorine-bearing hydrides.

A Main Sequence for Quasars

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2018
The last 25 years saw a major step forward in the analysis of optical and UV spectroscopic data of large quasar samples. Multivariate statistical approaches have led to the definition of systematic trends in observational properties that are the basis of
