An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Outflows in rho Ophiuchi as Seen with the Spitzer Infrared Array Camera

open access: yes, 2009
Using the IRAC images from the Spitzer c2d program, we have made a survey of mid-infrared outflows in the rho Ophiuchi molecular cloud. Extended objects that have prominent emission in IRAC channel 2 (4.5 micron) compared to IRAC channel 1 (3.6 micron ...

Dominant Nuclear Outflow Driving Mechanisms in Powerful Radio Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
In order to identify the dominant nuclear outflow mechanisms in Active Galactic Nuclei, we have undertaken deep, high resolution observations of two compact radio sources (PKS 1549-79 and PKS 1345+12) with the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) aboard the

Delayed or No Feedback? Gas Outflows in Type 2 AGNs. III. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We present gas kinematics based on the [O iii]λ5007 line and their connection to galaxy gravitational potential, active galactic nucleus (AGN) energetics, and star formation, using a large sample of ∼110,000 AGNs and star-forming (SF) galaxies at z < 0.3.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

NIHAO - XI. Formation of ultra-diffuse galaxies by outflows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We address the origin of Ultra-Diffuse Galaxies (UDGs), which have stellar masses typical of dwarf galaxies but effective radii of Milky Way-sized objects. Their formation mechanism, and whether they are failed $\rm L_{\star}$ galaxies or diffuse dwarfs,

Black hole outflows [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2010
I show that Eddington accretion episodes in AGN are likely to produce winds with velocities $v \sim 0.1c$ and ionization parameters up to $ξ\sim 10^4$ (cgs), implying the presence of resonance lines of helium-- and hydrogenlike iron. These properties are direct consequences of momentum and mass conservation respectively, and agree with recent X-ray ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Outflows and mass accretion in collapsing dense cores with misaligned rotation axis and magnetic field

open access: yes, 2010
Outflows and jets are intimately related to the formation of stars, and play an important role in redistributing mass, energy and angular momentum within the dense core and parent cloud.

Investors Do Respond to Poor Mutual Fund Performance: Evidence from Inflows and Outflows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We examine the relation between mutual fund performance and gross flows for a large sample of actively managed U.S. mutual funds. Unlike previous studies that have only examined periods of generally increasing net flows, our sample includes periods of ...
