Integrins in the Ovary

Seminars in Reproductive Medicine, 2006
Integrins are the major receptors mediating adhesion to the extracellular matrix. Following ligand binding, conformational changes of integrins induce the recruitment of multiple signaling and scaffolding proteins that connect integrin tails to the actin cytoskeleton and permit activation of signaling pathways regulating cell proliferation, apoptosis ...

Angiogenesis in the ovary

Reviews of Reproduction, 1996
In adult tissues, capillary growth (angiogenesis) occurs normally during tissue repair, such as in the healing of wounds and fractures. Inappropriate capillary growth is associated with various pathological conditions, including tumour growth, retinopathies, haemangiomas, fibroses and rheumatoid arthritis in the case of rampant capillary growth, and ...

Cancer of the Ovary

New England Journal of Medicine, 1993
Patients with ovarian cancer usually present with advanced disease, and the disease is generally managed with surgical resection followed by platinum-based chemotherapy. Recent chemotherapeutic advances have led to improved survival, and a better understanding of genetic risk factors has permitted a tailored approach to preventive strategies, such as ...

Dysgerminoma of the ovary

The American Journal of Surgery, 1957
Abstract A case of dysgerminoma of the ovary in a three and one-half year old child is reported. A metastatic lesion in the neck was the presenting symptom. The primary tumor was diagnosed several months later. If this tumor is diagnosed before metastasis occurs, a radical panhysterectomy followed by roentgen therapy is the treatment of choice.

In the menopausal ovary, there is atresia of ovarian follicles, with sparing of the androgen-producing theca-interstitial cell component. The aging ovary, therefore, produces significantly reduced amounts of estrogen, with continued,
