Nifedipine overdose [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Cardiology, 1988
AbstractOverdose with 300 mg of nifedipine in a 54‐year‐old woman led to profound hypotension and reflex tachycardia. The patient was treated with intravenous fluids, calcium gluconate, and dopamine. Cardiac rhythm disturbances, hypoglycemia, and myocardial depression were not found. Recovery was rapid and uneventful. The clinical aspects of nifedipine

Pilot findings on the real-world performance of xylazine test strips for drug residue testing and the importance of secondary testing methods

open access: yesDrug and Alcohol Dependence Reports
Background: Xylazine is a sedative found increasingly in the illicit fentanyl supply that can cause hypotension, bradycardia, necrosis and death. This pilot examined the real-world performance of BTNX xylazine test strips (XTS) in drug residue samples ...

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Targeting Post‐Irradiation Thyroid Dysfunction: Electrospun Scaffolds As A Dual‐Action Approach for Antioxidant and Immune Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Radiation‐induced hypothyroidism follows head and neck radiotherapy due to oxidative stress and inflammation. Electrospun polycaprolactone scaffolds containing adenosine have potential to modulate thyroid repair. Scaffolds enhance thyrocyte proliferation, antioxidant enzymes glutathione peroxidase and catalase, reduce senescence and apoptosis markers ...

Early intravenous lipid emulsion therapy for diphenhydramine overdose: a case report

open access: yesToxicology Communications, 2021
Diphenhydramine (DPH) is a lipophilic inverse agonist at the histamine receptor. Overdoses usually present with anticholinergic symptoms. Wide-complex tachycardia decompensating into cardiovascular collapse may occur in larger overdoses. Here we report a
