Suppression of abnormal overvoltages on an HVDC transmission system

Electrical Engineering in Japan, 1978
The abnormal overvoltage characteristics of an HVDC transmission system consisting of overhead and cable power conductors and a neutral return wire are analyzed. A dc transient network analyzer is used for the analysis. Measures proposed and discussed for suppressing overvoltages are the use of reverse biased diodes and damping circuits.

Transient Overvoltage Suppression Strategy Considering Reactive Power Dynamics of New Energy Units

2025 10th Asia Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering (ACPEE)
To address the transient overvoltage (TOV) issue caused by excess new energy (NE) reactive power under commutation failure (CF) faults, the strategy of suppressing TOV has been proposed from two aspects: curbing excess reactive power and exploiting ...

Evaluation and Experimental Comparison of Overvoltage Suppression Methods for DC Circuit Breakers

European Conference on Cognitive Ergonomics, 2023
Among the semiconductor-based dc circuit breaker (DCCB) topologies (e.g., solid-state circuit breakers, hybrid circuit breakers), a common element is the paralleled branches of power semiconductor switches and energy absorption components.

Overvoltage Suppression Strategy for Offshore Wind Farm Integrated into AC Grid Through VSC-HVDC

2023 8th Asia Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering (ACPEE), 2023
Overvoltage usually occurs when an ac failure is applied to an onshore system that includes an offshore wind farm. The onshore converter station's output power rapidly decreases under these conditions.

Suppression of lightning‐induced overvoltages by distribution line surge arresters

Electrical Engineering in Japan, 1996
AbstractThe primary aim of surge arresters in power distribution lines is to protect lines and equipment from the voltage induced by nearby lightning strokes. To further improve power systems, methods to protect distribution lines against direct lightning strokes are still needed. An effective measure against direct lightning strokes is to increase the

Research on Overvoltage Suppression Based on DC Circuit Breaker(CICED 2024)

2024 China International Conference on Electricity Distribution (CICED)
In this paper., the topology of DC circuit breaker is proposed., when the fault current occurs., the sampling circuit detects that the current exceeds the threshold., and immediately starts the driving power supply to quickly shut down the JFET., but the

A novel three-phase unbalanced overvoltage suppression method for distribution network

2017 China International Electrical and Energy Conference (CIEEC), 2017
Aiming at suppressing three-phase unbalanced overvoltage in distribution network, a new suppression method was proposed in this paper. The PWM active inverter is used to inject a current with the amplitude and phase easily obtained into the neutral point of distribution network.
