Substantial Differences Between Human and Ovine Mesenchymal Stem Cells in Response to Osteogenic Media: How to Explain and How to Manage?

open access: yesBioResearch Open Access, 2013
It is expected that use of adult multipotential mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) for bone tissue engineering (TE) will lead to improvement of TE products. Prior to clinical application, biocompatibility of bone TE products need to be tested in vitro and in ...

Protective Effect of Phytic Acid in Cardiovascular Diseases: A Systematic Review

open access: yesChemFoodChem, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are a cluster of ailments that impact the heart and blood vessels and are a primary public health problem of mortality on a global scale. Phytic acid, a dietary constituent frequently present in foods like seeds, has been linked to many pharmacological attributes, including anti‐cancer, antioxidant, anti ...

Observed Trace Mineral Deficiencies in a Group of Locally Harvested Sheep in Hawai’i

open access: yesVeterinary Sciences
Trace minerals (TM) play a critical role in the health and productivity of small ruminants. They are essential for various physiological functions, including growth, reproduction, and immune response, yet research on their status in Hawai’i is notably ...

Development and preclinical evaluation of a hybrid stereoelectroencephalographic–laser depth electrode for magnetic resonance imaging‐guided interstitial thermal therapy in drug‐resistant epilepsy

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective This study was undertaken to design and validate a hybrid depth electrode combining stereoelectroencephalographic (sEEG) recording and magnetic resonance‐guided laser interstitial thermal therapy (MRgLITT) under real‐time magnetic resonance thermometry, to streamline the transition from invasive localization to focal ablation in ...

Dexmedetomidine infusions improve cardiovascular and renal function in anaesthetised, experimentally endotoxaemic horses

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Dexmedetomidine infusions are beneficial in anaesthetised endotoxaemic horses when administered concurrent to endotoxin, but post‐conditioning effects are unknown. Objectives To evaluate whether a dexmedetomidine infusion is beneficial in horses administered Escherichia coli O55:B5 lipopolysaccharides (LPS) endotoxin prior to ...

Duct‐level evaluation of mammary gland health, somatic cell count and bacterial flora in lactating jennies

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Assessing mammary gland health in donkeys is challenging due to the lack of species‐specific diagnostic criteria for subclinical mastitis. Although somatic cell count (SCC) is widely used in dairy ruminants, its diagnostic value in jennies remains unclear.

Material in silico adaptation and validation of an ovine heart model for blunt cardiac trauma applications

open access: yesFrontiers in Mechanical Engineering
IntroductionBlunt cardiac trauma (BCT) is seen throughout high-velocity blunt thoracic trauma, and while it is considered to be low prevalence, it often leads to fatalities. The finite element ovine thorax model (FE-OTM) was developed to investigate high-

Ovine Toxoplasmosis in Sweden

open access: yesActa Veterinaria Scandinavica, 1983
Sera from 155 ewes representing 21 different sheep flocks from the central parts of Sweden were examined for the presence of antibodies to Toxoplasma gondii by the indirect fluorescent-antibody test. Seropositive animals were found in 14 flocks, which corresponded to 55 % of the tested sera.

Tectono‐Sedimentary Evolution of the Neogene İnegöl Basin (NW Anatolia): Constraints on Transtensional Basin Development at the Junction of the Western Anatolian Extensional Province and the North Anatolian Fault Zone

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
The study outlines the tectono‐sedimentary evolution of the İnegöl Basin in north‐western Anatolia. Basin formation was controlled by interacting extensional and strike‐slip fault systems linked to uplift of the Uludağ Massif. Terrestrial sedimentation from the Miocene to Pleistocene is reconstructed using abundant fossil mammal assemblages that ...
