In ovo electroporation of avian somites

Developmental Dynamics, 2004
AbstractIn ovo electroporation is a well‐established method of gene transfer into neural and mesenchymal tissue in chick embryos. Electroporation of somites, however, has been hampered by low efficiency due to technical difficulties. Here, we present a powerful technique to electroporate avian somites and subpopulations of somitic cells at high ...

In Ovo and Ex Ovo Methods to Study Avian Inner Ear Development.

Journal of visualized experiments : JoVE, 2022
The inner ear perceives sound and maintains balance using the cochlea and vestibule. It does this by using a dedicated mechanosensory cell type known as the hair cell. Basic research in the inner ear has led to a deep understanding of how the hair cell functions, and how dysregulation can lead to hearing loss and vertigo.

Calcium homeostasis in in ovo and ex ovo turkey embryos.

Growth, development, and aging : GDA, 1995
Calcium homeostasis of in ovo (normal) and ex ovo (shell-less) turkey embryos was investigated at 15, 18, and 21 days of incubation. Hypocalcemia and an elevation in circulating 1,25(OH)2D3 in ex ovo embryos were observed by 15 days. Calcium and phosphorus concentrations in femora and tibiae in ex ovo embryos were significantly lower compared to their ...
