Effect of Thyroid Function on LDL Oxidation [PDF]

open access: yesArteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology, 1998
Abstract —In this study, the effect of different levels of thyroid hormone and metabolic activity on low density lipoprotein (LDL) oxidation was investigated. Thus, in 16 patients with hyperthyroidism, 16 with hypothyroidism, and 16 age- and sex-matched healthy normolipidemic control subjects, the native LDL content in lipid ...

The GRK2/AP‐1 Signaling Axis Mediates Vascular Endothelial Dysfunction and Atherosclerosis Induced by Oscillatory Low Shear Stress

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study highlights GRK2 is a central mediator in OSS‐induced endothelial dysfunction. OSS activates GPCRs in endothelial cells, leading to GRK2 phosphorylation and the activation of AP‐1. AP‐1 induces inflammation, while also promoting NR4A1 expression and anchoring LKB1 in the nucleus, which suppresses AMPK activity. This cascade causes endothelial

Relationship of IgG and IgM autoantibodies and immune complexes to oxidized LDL with markers of oxidation and inflammation and cardiovascular events: results from the EPIC-Norfolk Study

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2011
Levels of IgG and IgM autoantibodies (AA) to malondialdehyde (MDA)-LDL and apoB-immune complexes (ICs) were measured in 748 cases and 1,723 controls in the EPIC-Norfolk cohort and their association to coronary artery disease (CAD) events determined.

CD74 Blockade Disrupts Endothelial Migrasome Signaling to Prevent Inflammatory Macrophage Differentiation and Inhibit Atherosclerotic Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Migrasomes play a crucial role in endothelial‐immune interactions in atherosclerosis. This study identifies migrasomes as amplifiers in the inflammatory cascade, driving immune‐metabolic reprogramming via “migrasome‐APP‐CD74” signaling. Blocking CD74 disrupts migrasome‐mediated signaling, attenuating atherosclerosis progression.

Oxidized LDL: diversity, patterns of recognition, and pathophysiology.

open access: yesAntioxidants and Redox Signaling, 2010
Oxidative modification of LDL is known to elicit an array of pro-atherogenic responses, but it is generally underappreciated that oxidized LDL (OxLDL) exists in multiple forms, characterized by different degrees of oxidation and different mixtures of ...

A hepatoprotective experiment on taro vegetable (Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott) flower employing animal models by mitigating oxidative stress

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
The antioxidant efficacy of Colocasia esculenta flower’s methanolic extract was assessed using 2,2′‐azino‐bis‐(3‐ethylbenzothiazoline‐6‐sulfonic) (ABTS) and 2,2‐diphenyl‐1‐picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging assay. The hepatoprotective effect was investigated by assessing liver injury indicators (amino transferase [ALT], aspartate amino transferase [AST],

Loss of hepatic SMLR1 causes hepatosteatosis and protects against atherosclerosis due to decreased hepatic VLDL secretion

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
The role of SMLR1 in lipid metabolism (high fat + cholesterol diet in mice) Abstract Background and Aims The assembly and secretion of VLDL from the liver, a pathway that affects hepatic and plasma lipids, remains incompletely understood. We set out to identify players in the VLDL biogenesis pathway by identifying genes that are co‐expressed with the ...

Roles of multiple oxidized LDL lipids in cellular injury: dominance of 7 beta-hydroperoxycholesterol

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1996
The relative toxicities of several lipid oxidation products formed on oxidized LDL, their presence on oxidized LDL, and potential mechanisms of cell injury compared to oxidized LDL were examined.

Protective effects of allicin against stanozolol‐induced cardiotoxicity: Physiological and histopathological evidence in a rabbit model

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
There are many forms of anabolic steroids, including stanzolo (Winstrol), which are popular for their muscle‐building effects but dangerous to the heart. This present work is aimed at evaluating the pharmacological impact of allacin, a natural attribute obtained from garlic on obstructing cardiac injury in rabbits that received stanzolo.

Nicotinamide riboside and pterostilbene reduces markers of hepatic inflammation in NAFLD: A double‐blind, placebo‐controlled clinical trial

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
NRPT 1X reduces ALT and ceramide 14:0 in 65% of subjects as compared to only 28% in the placebo group. Abstract Background and Aims The prevalence of NAFLD is increasing globally and on a path to becoming the most frequent cause of chronic liver disease. Strategies for the prevention and treatment of NAFLD are urgently needed.
