Biochemical and structural characterization of chlorite dismutase enzyme from Pseudomonas aeruginosa

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Chlorite dismutase (Cld) is a heme b oxidoreductase that can decompose chlorite (ClO2−$$ {\mathrm{ClO}}_2^{-} $$ or OClO−) into harmless chloride (Cl−) and dioxygen (O2) with high turnover rates. Cld was found to be involved in different biological processes, and the rare reaction it catalyzes makes it a prominent enzyme for different applications. The

Studies of the membrane‐bound flavocytochrome MsrQ flavin mononucleotide (FMN)‐binding site reveal an unexpected ubiquinone cofactor

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
The membrane‐bound heme flavoprotein MsrQ is the specific electron donor for the periplasmic methionine sulfoxide reductase MsrP. Analysis of its flavin environment revealed that ubiquinone (UQ) is a cofactor for MsrQ. However, redox studies demonstrate that UQ cannot function as an electron donor for the MsrPQ system.

PEG‐23 glyceryl distearate, a multifunctional skin‐supporting material, upregulates the expression of factors associated with epidermal barrier and hydration

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, EarlyView.
Polyethylene glycol‐23 glyceryl distearate (GDS‐23) forms niosomes and penetrates the skin. Our results suggest that the pharmacological effects following dermal penetration of GDS‐23 may enhance skin homeostasis by improving barrier function and moisture retention.

Silicon‐Based Agent Attenuates Age‐Related Spermatogenesis Disorder

open access: yesInternational Journal of Urology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives The progressive decline in birth rates due to delayed marriage has become a significant issue in developed countries, with male spermatogenetic capabilities gradually declining with age. This study evaluated the effectiveness of a silicon‐based agent (Si‐based) that efficiently generates hydrogen in the body to improve spermatogenic
