The effect of cryotherapy on oxygen‐induced retinopathy in the newborn kitten
Acta Ophthalmologica, 1987Abstract. Partial cryotherapy was performed in the right eye of 14 kittens with experimental oxygen‐induced retinopathy, while the left eye remained untreated as a control. Subsequent funduscopic examination and histopathological studies of all kittens showed no significant difference between the treated and untreated eyes with respect to the amount ...

Impaired nephrogenesis in neonatal rats with oxygen‐induced retinopathy
Pediatrics International, 2017AbstractBackgroundPreterm neonates are born while nephrogenesis is ongoing, and are commonly exposed to factors in a hyperoxic environment that can impair renal development. Oxidative stress has also been implicated in the development of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP).

Ibuprofen improves oxygen-induced retinopathy in a mouse model
Current Eye Research, 2003Retinopathy of prematurity is a developmental vascular anomaly occurring in the incompletely vascularized retina of the premature infant. Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agent similar to indomethacin, but with less pronounced side-effects.

Hydrogen-rich Saline is ineffective in oxygen-induced retinopathy
Life Sciences, 2016Hydrogen-rich saline (HRS) is a novel protection against various oxidative disorders and almost all types of inflammation. Moreover, its toxicity and side effects are rarely reported. We sought to clarify the protective effect of HRS against the oxygen-induced retinopathy (OIR) in C57BL/6 J model. The OIR in the HRS treated mice and the untreated ...

Oxygen-Induced Retinopathy Model for Ischemic Retinal Diseases in Rodents
Journal of Visualized Experiments, 2020One of the commonly used models for ischemic retinopathies is the oxygen-induced retinopathy (OIR) model. Here we describe detailed protocols for the OIR model induction and its readouts in both mice and rats. Retinal neovascularization is induced in OIR by exposing rodent pups either to hyperoxia (mice) or alternating levels of hyperoxia and hypoxia ...

Observations of Vitamin E in Experimental Oxygen—Induced Retinopathy
Ophthalmology, 1979Retrolental fibroplasia (RLF) is a proliferative retinopathy observed in premature infants. Its relationship to oxygen has led to both clinical and laboratory research into the potential benefits of the antioxidant tocopherol in this disorder. Although the clinical trials to date have only suggested a beneficial result, studies in the kitten model ...

Rodent Models of Oxygen-Induced Retinopathy
2008Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), a condition affecting premature infants, is characterized by pathological ocular angiogenesis, or retinal neovasculariztion (NV). Much of what is known about the development of the retinal vasculature and the progression of ROP has been acquired through the use of animal models of oxygen-induced retinopathy (OIR ...

The Role of Tocopherol in Oxygen-Induced Retinopathy: Kitten Model
Pediatrics, 1977The effect of tocopherol (vitalnin E) on oxygen-induced retinopathy was studied in 75 kittens following the development of a 12-point scoring system to quantitate the degree of retinopathy seen at three weeks. The tocopherol was found to be beneficial when given daily from the day of birth (P < .0001) with oxygen exposures of two to three days ...

[Four newborns with retinopathy similar to oxygen-induced retinopathy].
Nippon Ganka Gakkai zasshi, 1998We report 4 fullterm newborns who developed retinopathy similar to oxygen-induced retinopathy after high concentration oxygen therapy for pneumothorax and emphysema. Two of them had a severe condition, showing marked dilatation, winding, and abnormal branching of the retinal vessels, especially veins, and retinal trubidity.
