Diffusion and Monod kinetics model to determine in vivo human corneal oxygen-consumption rate during soft contact lens wear

open access: yesJournal of Optometry, 2015
Purpose: We present an analysis of the corneal oxygen consumption Qc from non-linear models, using data of oxygen partial pressure or tension (pO2) obtained from in vivo estimation previously reported by other authors.1 Methods: Assuming that the cornea ...

The Effect of Neuromuscular Blockade on Oxygen Consumption and Energy Expenditure in Mechanically Ventilated Acute Respiratory Insufficiency Patients

open access: yes, 2012
Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of neuromuscular blockade on oxygen consumption and energy expenditure in sedated patients with acute respiratory failure who were followed under mechanical ventilation support.

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

KIDNEY HYPOXIA, DUE TO INCREASED OXYGEN CONSUMPTION, INDUCES NEPHROPATHY INDEPENDENTLY OF HYPERGLYCEMIA AND OXIDATIVE STRESS

open access: yesHYPERTENSION, 2013
Diabetic nephropathy is strongly associated with both increased oxidative stress and kidney tissue hypoxia. The increased oxidative stress causes increased kidney oxygen consumption resulting in kidney tissue hypoxia.

UiO‐66 metal–organic frameworks in biomedicine: From structural tunability to bioimaging, photodiagnostics, and photodynamic cancer therapy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UiO‐66(Zr) metal–organic frameworks are chemically stable, biocompatible, and highly tunable nanomaterials. Their modular structure enables controlled drug delivery, multimodal bioimaging, and light‐activated photodynamic therapy, supporting integrated diagnostic and therapeutic (theranostic) applications in cancer and biomedical research.

15) and from men with prostatovesiculitis 1.4 l 02/108 live cells/hr (SD ± 2.5, range 0-8.2; n = 13). The difference was significant (0.01 > p > 0.005). No significant difference was noted between the oxygen consumption of the spermatozoa in specimens from patients with decreased secretory function of the prostate gland (n = 13) or with asthenospermia

Cutaneous Melanoma Drives Metabolic Changes in the Aged Bone Marrow Immune Microenvironment

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, increasingly affects older adults. Our study reveals that melanoma induces changes in iron and lipid levels in the bone marrow, impacting immune cell populations and increasing susceptibility to ferroptosis.
