Plasma Oxygen during Cardiopulmonary Bypass: A Comparison of Blood Oxygen Levels with Oxygen Present in Plasma Lipid

Clinical Science, 1998
1. Although not often appreciated, it is a fact that molecular oxygen is more soluble in lipids than in aqueous solution. We have recently developed a method to monitor oxygen within the lipid content of plasma. Monitoring plasma oxygen is one essential element during open heart surgery using a cardiopulmonary bypass pump and oxygenator.

Oxygen radicals and plasma membrane potential

Free Radical Biology and Medicine, 1988
Plasma membrane potential is an important physiologic parameter dependent both upon cellular metabolism and upon the integrity of the cell membrane. Oxygen radicals have been shown to produce significant and early changes in the membrane potential. This data is reviewed along with the physico-chemical origins of the membrane potential and methods of ...

Plasma proteins, oxygen transport and atherosclerosis

Atherosclerosis, 1972
Abstract In summary, we have presented evidence to support the hypoxic theory for the formation of atherosclerosis. More importantly, though, we have presented the following etiology for such hypoxia: 1. (1) Oxygen transport is affected by plasma protein concentrations and in most humans probably decreases with age; 2.

Oxygen barrier efficiency of hexamethyldisiloxane/oxygen plasma-deposited coating

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1996
Oxygen barrier coatings were made by plasma polymer deposition on a polypropylene substrate. Plasma polymer deposition is realized in a low-frequency reactor with hexamethyldisiloxane/oxygen (HMDSO/O2) precursors. The structure and composition of the deposited coating are characterized by density measurements and FTIR spectroscopy.

Sterilization by Pure Oxygen Plasma and by Oxygen - Hydrogen Peroxide Plasma: an Efficacy Study

International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2007
Plasma is an innovative sterilization method characterized by a low toxicity to operators and patients, and also by its operation at temperatures close to room temperatures. The use of different parameters for this method of sterilization and the corresponding results were analyzed in this study. A low-pressure inductive discharge was used to study the

Scaling laws for oxygen plasmas

IEEE Conference Record - Abstracts. 2002 IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science (Cat. No.02CH37340), 2003
Summary form only given. Electronegative gases are widely used in modern plasma technologies. Scaling laws enable one to simply estimate and predict plasma characteristics based of external discharge parameters. The presence of negative ions drastically changes the transport processes that define the spatial distributions of plasma components and other

Energetic Characteristics of Oxygen Plasma

Contributions to Plasma Physics, 1990
AbstractA low‐temperature oxygen plasma is studied using the thermocouple, probe and spectral method in the range of 2–8 Torr pressure, 30–100 mA discharge currents, 0, 5, 10 m/s pumping velocity. The gas temperature, concentrations of electrons and oxygen atoms in the 3p5P state, and the longitudinal electric field are measured.

Anodic oxidation of GaAs in oxygen plasma

1977 International Electron Devices Meeting, 1977
This paper deals with the development of a new technology of forming an oxide film on GaAs. It can be used for surface passivation of GaAs or other compound semiconductor devices, for gate insulation of GaAs MISFETs and also for isolation in GaAs IC. A low temperature of below 300°C is required to prevent the evaporation of As during oxidation.

Oxygen Plasma-Treatment Effects on Si Transfer

Langmuir, 2005
Oxygen plasma-treatment is commonly used to increase the hydrophilicity of poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) stamps used for microcontact printing (muCP) aqueous-based inks. Review of the literature reveals that a wide range of plasma parameters are currently employed to modify stamp surfaces.

Bandgap opening in oxygen plasma-treated graphene

Nanotechnology, 2010
We report a change in the semimetallic nature of single-layer graphene after exposure to oxygen plasma. The resulting transition from semimetallic to semiconducting behavior appears to depend on the duration of the exposure to the plasma treatment. The observation is confirmed by electrical, photoluminescence and Raman spectroscopy measurements.
