The competitive interplay of 12‐oxophytodienoic acid (OPDA), protein thiols, and glutathione

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
12‐Oxophytodienoic acid (OPDA) is a phytohormone involved in plant growth and stress defense. Due to its cyclopentenone moiety, OPDA can form Michael adducts with thiol‐containing compounds such as glutathione and cysteine residues of proteins, resulting in alterations of the cellular redox regulatory network.

Inhibition of lipoxygenase affects induction of both direct and indirect plant defences against herbivorous insects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Herbivore-induced plant defences influence the behaviour of insects associated with the plant. For biting–chewing herbivores the octadecanoid signal-transduction pathway has been suggested to play a key role in induced plant defence.

Key metabolites secreted by Chlorella vulgaris alleviate salt stress in soybean seedlings

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Chlorella vulgaris secretes exosome‐derived linolenic acid and inosine, which alleviate salt stress and enhance salt tolerance in soybean seedlings by activating stress‐responsive signaling networks. ABSTRACT Soil salinization is a major abiotic stress factor that reduces soybean production.

Eicosanoids and other oxylipins in liver injury, inflammation and liver cancer development

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2023
Liver cancer is a malignancy developed from underlying liver disease that encompasses liver injury and metabolic disorders. The progression from these underlying liver disease to cancer is accompanied by chronic inflammatory conditions in which liver ...

Oxylipins and Plant Palatability [PDF]

open access: yesThe Plant Cell, 2012
Oxylipins are a large family of oxygenated fatty acids that play important roles in plant development and responses to physical damage caused by herbivores, insects, and attack by pathogenic microorganisms ([Howe and Jander, 2008][1]; [Wu and Baldwin, 2010][2]).

Towards an integrated molecular understanding of plant hormones

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
This review offers a comprehensive overview of the nine plant hormones, delving into their biosynthesis, transport, signaling and crosstalk mechanisms. Because the complexity of plant hormonal control goes beyond these core elements, additional specific features are discussed. Lastly, this review highlights how fundamental insights drive hormonal‐based

Inactivation of Carbonyl-Detoxifying Enzymes by H2O2 Is a Trigger to Increase Carbonyl Load for Initiating Programmed Cell Death in Plants

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2020
H2O2-induced programmed cell death (PCD) of tobacco Bright Yellow-2 (BY-2) cells is mediated by reactive carbonyl species (RCS), degradation products of lipid peroxides, which activate caspase-3-like protease (C3LP).

Novel Oxylipin Signaling Cascades [PDF]

open access: yesThe Plant Cell, 2007
Oxylipins, lipid derivatives generated by oxygenation of fatty acids, function in signaling pathways related to various environmental and pathological responses in both plants and animals.

Current Trends, Future Prospects and Constraints of Whole Microalgae and Their Fractions as a Functional Feed Ingredient for Animals

open access: yesJournal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Microalgae are a highly diverse group of unicellular organisms that grow in a wide range of aquatic environments and are widely used as dietary supplements for both human and animal applications. Microalgae are rich in lipids, proteins, carbohydrates and other valuable bioactive components such as pigments, antioxidants and vitamins.

A New Generation of Postbiotics for Skin and Scalp: In Situ Production of Lipid Metabolites by Malassezia

open access: yesMicroorganisms
Effects of pre- and probiotics on intestinal health are well researched and microbiome-targeting solutions are commercially available. Even though a trend to appreciate the presence of certain microbes on the skin is seeing an increase in momentum, our ...
