The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Sense-T: Sensor smart irrigation

open access: yes, 2017
The Sense-T Sensor-Smart Irrigation app predicts daily soil-water in the infield spatial zones using FAO-56. The irrigation requirement is determined in each zone from the difference between the predicted soil-water and field capacity. Incorporation of a

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Oscillation for advanced differential equations with oscillating coefficients

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 2003
Some sufficient conditions are established for the oscillation of all solutions of the advanced differential equation x′(t)−p(t)x(t+τ)=0, t≥t0, where the coefficient p(t)∈C([t0,∞),R) is oscillatory, and τ is a positive constant.

Optimization of digital EMG signal processors in dynamic conditions

open access: yes, 1983
The extraction of information on the mechanical aspects of muscle movements from their electrical activity is one of the main problems in prostheses/orthoses field and, in general, in clinical neurophysiology. The EMG signal takes the form of an ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Scapolites behavior at non-ambient (P,T)-conditions: the case of an intermediate scapolite

open access: yes, 2023
Scapolites are a group of open-framework aluminosilicates with general formula M4T12O24A, where M are monovalent or divalent cations (usually Na, Ca and minor K), T are trivalent or tetravalent cations (mostly Al and Si) in tetrahedral coordination, and ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.
