The in vitro small intestine of the rat and hamster did not transport p-aminobenzoic acid (10−6−10−3) against a concentration gradient, while that of the mouse and flying squirrel did. 2. 2. This asymmetric distribution did not exceed that predicted on the basis of the potential differences across the intestine.
