Plasma substance P and soluble P-selectin as biomarkers of β-thalassemia induced hypercoagulability
Background: Hypercoagulability in thalassemia especially in thalassemia major has emerged as a complication of the disease. There is evidence of increased platelet aggregation and increased proportion of platelets expressing P-selectin in thalassemia.

Selectins [endothelial (E), platelet (P), and leucocytes (L)] are a class of cell adhesion molecules, stimulated in response to inflammation. Pre-eclampsia is characterized by inflammation, and angiotensin II is pro-inflammatory.

P-selectin glycoprotein ligand-1 forms dimeric interactions with E-selectin but monomeric interactions with L-selectin on cell surfaces. [PDF]
Interactions of selectins with cell surface glycoconjugates mediate the first step of the adhesion and signaling cascade that recruits circulating leukocytes to sites of infection or injury.

Expandable Nanocomposite Shape‐Memory Hemostat for the Treatment of Noncompressible Hemorrhage
A nanocomposite‐coated shape memory foam rapidly expands, accelerates clotting, and reduces blood loss in vivo. Its fast volumetric expansion and strong procoagulant activity make it a promising hemostat for treating deep, noncompressible hemorrhage.

Soluble P-selectin levels in synovial fluid and serum from patients with psoriatic arthritis
Objective: P-selectin is an adhesion molecule expressed by activated endothelial cells and platelets favouring the leukocyte adherence to microvascular endothelium.

In this study, we constructed a nanoparticle that was CD4 antibody‐mediated targeted, Fut7‐expressing plasmid‐loaded cationic liposome, namely CD4‐LDP‐Fut7. Upregulation of Fut7 expression in Tregs by using CD4‐LDP‐Fut7 can increase Treg homing to the intestine, thereby facilitating repair of the intestinal epithelial barrier and inhibiting ...

Acute cardiac inflammatory responses to postischemic reperfusion during cardiopulmonary bypass [PDF]
Objectives: The investigation centers on whether there is a reperfusion-induced specific cardiac inflammatory reaction after bypass surgery. Background: Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) leads to systemic inflammation.

Wedelolactone (WED), a natural TLR2 agonist, promotes neutrophil differentiation and enhances bactericidal function, offering a potential therapeutic strategy for neutropenia. Using a multi‐omics approach, this study reveals that WED activates the TLR2/MEK/ERK pathway, upregulating key transcription factors (PU.1, CEBPβ) to drive neutrophil development.

Better Nanoparticle Targeting with P-Selectin [PDF]
Abstract A study in mice indicates that the adhesion molecule P-selectin, which is expressed on the endothelium during inflammation, may serve as a target for the delivery of drug-filled nanoparticles to tumors. Antitumor efficacy was achieved in several mouse models of cancer, and the researchers successfully used this approach even ...
