Anophelines collected indoors and in the peri-domiciliary area in 3 localities in the Amazon region, state of Acre, Brazil, from August 1990 to January 1991 were examined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) using specific monoclonal antibodies directed against the repeats of the circumsporozoite proteins of Plasmodium falciparum, P.

Duffy and receptors for P. vivax and chemotactic peptides
Transfusion Clinique et Biologique, 1995The Duffy blood group system consists of two principal antigens, Fya and Fyb produced by FY*A and FY*B co-dominant alleles. Antisera, anti-Fya and anti-Fyb, define four phenotypes: Fy(a+b-), Fy(a-b+), Fy(a+b+) and Fy(a-b-). Neither antiserum agglutinates Fy(a-b-) cells, the predominant phenotype in Blacks.

P. vivax malaria complicated by shock and ARDS
Scandinavian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2007We report a case of Plasmodium vivax malaria complicated by shock and ARDS. The patient responded to oral chloroquine and primaquine and PCR was positive for P. vivax DNA and negative for P. falciparum DNA. P. vivax may cause severe complications and where the possibility of mixed infections exists, blood should be sent for PCR analysis so that mixed ...

The interrelationship of Plasmodium falciparum and P. vivax in the Punjab
Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1989Analysis of data obtained from Giemsa-stained blood films from patients with mixed Plasmodium vivax and P. falciparum parasitaemias seen in outpatient clinics held over 20 consecutive months in 4 villages in the Pakistani Punjab suggest that infections with P. falciparum and P. vivax were independent of each other.

Methotrexate Therapy for P vivax Malaria
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1971To the Editor.— The recent article by Sheehy and Dempsey on "Methotrexate Therapy for Plasmodium vivax Malaria" ( 214: 109-114, 1970) contains statements concerning our present knowledge of the actions of folic acid antagonists in malaria which are deficient in content and misleading.

Malaria (P. falciparum, P. vivax, P. malariae, P. ovale)
2010In Australia, all four human Plasmodium species are routinely detected, with cases typically arising in migrants, travellers, soldiers, and refugees [2]. Traditionally, light microscopy has been utilized in Plasmodium species detection; however, the last decade has seen the introduction of nucleic acid amplification-based diagnostic assays [5 ...

Detection of P. falciparum and P. vivax gametocytes in field surveys
2013Background: Measurements of the prevalence of Plasmodium sp. gametocytes may serve as a tool to monitor the success of antimalarial interventions, in particular in the context of renewed efforts to eliminate malaria. We developed tools for detection and quantification of P. vivax and P. falciparum gametocytes[for full text, please go to the a.m. URL]

Identification of the optimal third generation antifolate against P. falciparum and P. vivax
Molecular and Biochemical Parasitology, 2005Inhibitors of dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) have been mainstays in the treatment of falciparum malaria. Resistance to one of these antifolates, pyrimethamine, is now common in Plasmodium falciparum populations. Antifolates have not traditionally been recommended for treatment of vivax malaria.

In 2003-2005, following an increase in the local incidence of human malaria, the therapeutic efficacy of chloroquine (CQ) in the treatment of Plasmodium vivax and P. falciparum malaria was evaluated in the Anand district of Gujarat state, in western India.

Concurrent dengue and malaria due to Plasmodium falciparum and P. vivax
Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 2007Concurrent infections of dengue and malaria are rare. We report a case of dengue fever with acute malaria due to Plasmodium falciparum and P. vivax in which the presence of mixed infection with P. vivax was overlooked and confirmed later on during recurrence of the fever that had initially responded to conventional antimalarial treatment and ...
