Regulation of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase during NK cell activation [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Immunology, 2000
The mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) p38 modulates a variety of cellular functions, including proliferation, differentiation and cell death. However, we report here a novel function for p38, i.e. the regulation of cytotoxic lymphocyte-mediated cytotoxicity.

Bacterial Pigments as Potential Antitumor Agents Against Gastrointestinal Cancers: A Comprehensive Systematic Review

open access: yesBiotechnology and Applied Biochemistry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Gastrointestinal cancers (GICs) constitute one of the leading causes of cancer‐related morbidity and mortality worldwide. Despite currently available therapeutic strategies, new approaches and procedures are needed for their prevention and treatment.

The role of stress-activated protein kinase signaling in renal pathophysiology

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 2009
Two major stress-activated protein kinases are the p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and the c-Jun amino terminal kinase (JNK). p38 and JNK are widely expressed in different cell types in various tissues and can be activated by a diverse range ...

The inhibitory mechanism of crude saponin fraction from Korean Red Ginseng in collagen-induced platelet aggregation

open access: yesJournal of Ginseng Research, 2015
Background: Korean Red Ginseng has been used as a traditional oriental medicine to treat illness and to promote health for several thousand years in Eastern Asia. It is widely accepted that ginseng saponins, ginsenosides, are the major active ingredients

Anopheles stephensi p38 MAPK signaling regulates innate immunity and bioenergetics during Plasmodium falciparum infection. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BackgroundFruit flies and mammals protect themselves against infection by mounting immune and metabolic responses that must be balanced against the metabolic needs of the pathogens.

p38 Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase in beryllium-induced dendritic cell activation [PDF]

open access: yesHuman Immunology, 2014
Dendritic cells (DC) play a role in the regulation of immune responses to haptens, which in turn impact DC maturation. Whether beryllium (Be) is able to induce DC maturation and if this occurs via the MAPK pathway is not known. Primary monocyte-derived DCs (moDCs) models were generated from Be non-exposed healthy volunteers as a non-sensitized cell ...

Systemic aging fuels heart failure: Molecular mechanisms and therapeutic avenues

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1059-1080, April 2025.
Abstract Systemic aging influences various physiological processes and contributes to structural and functional decline in cardiac tissue. These alterations include an increased incidence of left ventricular hypertrophy, a decline in left ventricular diastolic function, left atrial dilation, atrial fibrillation, myocardial fibrosis and cardiac ...

Acute p38-mediated inhibition of NMDA-induced outward currents in hippocampal CA1 neurons by interleukin-1β

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2010
Interleukin-1β (IL-1β) is a potent pro-inflammatory cytokine that is primarily produced by microglia in the brain. IL-1β inhibits N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA)-induced outward currents (INMDA-OUT) through IL-1 type I receptor (IL-1RI) in hippocampal CA1 ...
