Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Establishing scheme and algorithm for dynamic key-path of pair wise key for sensor networks

open access: yesTongxin xuebao, 2008
Security schemes of pair wise key establishment ensure communication security in wireless sensor networks. Dynamic key-path in pair wise key establishment farther increases communication security in the networks.

Methicillin resistance transfer from Staphylocccus epidermidis to methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus in a patient during antibiotic therapy. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
BACKGROUND: The mecA gene, encoding methicillin resistance in staphylococci, is located on a mobile genetic element called Staphylococcal Cassette Chromosome mec (SCCmec).

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

pracy: A Practical Compiler for Attribute-Based Encryption in Python

open access: yesTransactions on Cryptographic Hardware and Embedded Systems
Attribute-based encryption (ABE) is a versatile primitive that has been considered in many applications to enforce access control cryptographically. To actually benefit from ABE in practice, we require implementations of schemes that satisfy all the ...

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Korean jamo-level byte-pair encoding for neural machine translation

open access: yes, 2023
Tokenization is the very first step in most Natural Language Processing tasks, and is essential in addressing the fundamental out-of-vocabulary problem, as well as in changing the linguistic understanding.

Spatial information encoding in astrocytes is complementary and synergistic to spatial information encoding in neurons.

open access: yes, 2022
(A) Information about position carried by pairs of ROIs (I) compared to the sum (ILIN) or the maximum (IMAX) of the information separately encoded by each member of the pair. A-A, pair composed of 2 astrocytic ROIs; N-N, pair composed of 2 neuronal ROIs;

An Improved Byte Pair Encoding Method for Tibetan

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Computational Intelligence and Intelligent Informatics
Byte pair encoding (BPE) plays a crucial role in natural language processing tasks by effectively reducing vocabulary redundancy and alleviating the out-of-vocabulary problem. However, when applied to Tibetan language tasks, the standard BPE method fails to fully exploit its advantages due to the unique characteristics of the Tibetan script.
