REAL-TIME BIOFEEDBACK INTEGRATED INTO NEUROMUSCULAR TRAINING INCREASES BRAIN FUNCTIONAL CONNECTIVITY AND REDUCES HIGH-RISK KNEE BIOMECHANICS

open access: yesOrthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine, 2019
Background: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury is associated with alterations in the central nervous system and resultant sensorimotor control (Courtney et al., 2005; Grooms et al., 2017).

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Validation and application of a tool to assess self-confidence to do improvement

open access: yesBMJ Open Quality
Introduction Increasing improvement capability in the workforce is vital within healthcare. The type of quality improvement training to increase capability varies. One way to measure the impact of improvement training is self-confidence to do improvement.

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Paired comparisons of song and male quality measures for extra-pair (EP) males and the within-pair (WP) males they cuckolded; no effect was statistically significant after correcting for multiple testing.

open access: yes, 2013
For song variables, I constructed a mixed model with role (EP vs. WP) as a fixed effect; year, trill type, pitch, trill duration, and timing of the trill within the song as fixed covariates; and male identity and group as random effects.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Comparison of preferences for object properties in the rat using paired- and free-choice paradigms

open access: yes, 2008
A common method for testing preference for objects is to determine which of a pair of objects is approached first in a paired-choice paradigm. In comparison, many studies of preference for environmental enrichment (EE) devices have used paradigms in ...

Evaluation of occlusion and disocclusion time in immediately loaded implant overdentures retained by two splinted versus non-splinted interforaminal implants: A randomized clinical trial

open access: yesBMC Oral Health
Background Mandibular complete dentures often lack stability, leading to prolonged occlusion and disocclusion times. Immediate-loading implant overdentures can improve functional control, but evidence comparing splinted and non-splinted two-implant ...

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...
