No apparent increase in cases of severe acute hepatitis of unknown etiology with fulminant liver failure in children in Germany, 2022. [PDF]
Abstract Objectives In April 2022, the United Kingdom and the United States reported alarming increases in cases of severe acute hepatitis of unknown etiology in children, indicating a multicountry outbreak. We aimed to determine if Germany was affected by the outbreak.

Acute severe cholestatic hepatitis and lymphopenia characterize pediatric hepatitis-associated aplastic anemia. [PDF]
Abstract Objectives Hepatitis‐associated aplastic anemia (HAAA) is described as acute severe hepatitis of unknown origin followed by bone marrow failure (BMF). We aimed to provide a comprehensive picture of pediatric HAAA. Methods Two‐center retrospective analysis was performed using data from children diagnosed with acquired BMF, including severe ...

Absence of Pupillary Reflexes in Pediatric Acute Liver Failure and Neurological Outcome After Liver Transplantation. [PDF]
We analyzed a retrospective, observational cohort of 51 patients with pediatric acute liver failure with severe hepatic encephalopathy (grade III‐IV), admitted between 1993 and 2023. The survival rate in patients with present PR was higher compared to patients with absent PR (70% and 29%, respectively).

A Novel PCK1 Gene Variant Associated With Cytosolic Phosphoenolpyruvate Carboxykinase Deficiency: Two Siblings With Different Clinical Presentations. [PDF]
ABSTRACT Cytosolic phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK‐C) deficiency is a rare autosomal recessive gluconeogenesis disorder caused by variants in the PCK1 gene. Clinically, PEPCK‐C deficiency is characterized by recurrent episodes of fasting‐induced hypoglycemia, liver dysfunction, and seizures, with the first hypoglycemic episode typically ...
