Transcriptional Analysis of Liver Tissue Identifies Distinct Phenotypes of Indeterminate Pediatric Acute Liver Failure

open access: yesHepatology Communications, 2021
Many patients with indeterminate pediatric acute liver failure (PALF) have evidence of T‐cell driven immune injury; however, the precise inflammatory pathways are not well defined. We have characterized the hepatic cytokine and transcriptional signatures

Absence of Pupillary Reflexes in Pediatric Acute Liver Failure and Neurological Outcome After Liver Transplantation. [PDF]

open access: yesPediatr Transplant
We analyzed a retrospective, observational cohort of 51 patients with pediatric acute liver failure with severe hepatic encephalopathy (grade III‐IV), admitted between 1993 and 2023. The survival rate in patients with present PR was higher compared to patients with absent PR (70% and 29%, respectively).

Evaluation of the Diameter Influence on the Tensile Strength of Pineapple Leaf Fibers (PALF) by Weibull Method [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2015
The fiber extracted from pineapple leaf (PALF) displays relevant mechanical properties that are motivating investigations for possible engineering application as polymer composite reinforcement. As any natural lignocellulosic fiber, the PALF presents non-

A Novel PCK1 Gene Variant Associated With Cytosolic Phosphoenolpyruvate Carboxykinase Deficiency: Two Siblings With Different Clinical Presentations. [PDF]

open access: yesJIMD Rep
ABSTRACT Cytosolic phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK‐C) deficiency is a rare autosomal recessive gluconeogenesis disorder caused by variants in the PCK1 gene. Clinically, PEPCK‐C deficiency is characterized by recurrent episodes of fasting‐induced hypoglycemia, liver dysfunction, and seizures, with the first hypoglycemic episode typically ...

Tensile and flexural behaviour of graphite filler particles and pineapple leaf fiber (palf) reinforced polymer composites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
New composites materials are developed to meet the demand for medical devices, vehicles, protective equipment, sporting goods, etc. In present investigations, the effects of graphite filler particles in the epoxy were studied separately by preparing ...

Etiology, outcome and prognostic factors of childhood acute liver failure in a German Single Center

open access: yesAnnals of Hepatology, 2015
Pediatric acute liver failure (PALF) is a progressive, potentially fatal clinical syndrome occurring in previously healthy children. Our study aimed to determine the current leading causes of PALF in a single center in Germany, identifying possible ...

Hemostatic Balance in Pediatric Acute Liver Failure: Epidemiology of Bleeding and Thrombosis, Physiology, and Current Strategies

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics, 2020
Pediatric Acute Liver Failure (PALF) is a rapidly progressive clinical syndrome encountered in the pediatric ICU which may rapidly progress to multi-organ dysfunction, and on occasion to life threatening cerebral edema and hemorrhage.
