The effect of adrenomedullin and proadrenomedullin N- terminal 20 peptide on angiotensin II induced vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Basic Medical Sciences, 2016
Objective(s): The study aimed to investigate the effects of adrenomedullin (ADM) and proadrenomedullin N- terminal 20 peptide (PAMP) on angiotensin II (AngII)-stimulated proliferation in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs).

Themes and prospects for intellectual property law reform [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This state-of-the-art study argues that reforms to intellectual property (IP) should be based on the ways IP is interacting with new technologies, business models, work patterns and social mores. It identifies emerging IP reform proposals and experiments,

Hijacking the Host Clock: A Nematode Effector Antagonizes Soybean Circadian Defense and Translation Control

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Soybean employs its circadian clock, governed by GmCCA1, to rhythmically defend against soybean cyst nematodes. The pathogen retaliates by secreting the effector Hg4E02, which hijacks the clock to suppress defense and co‐opt the host's translation machinery for nutrient acquisition.

Safety of Therapeutic Fever Induction in Cancer Patients Using Approved PAMP Drugs

open access: yesTranslational Oncology, 2018
William Coley, between 1895 and 1936, treated hundreds of cancer patients using infusions of fever inducing bacerial extracts. Similar experiments were done by Klyuyeva and co-workers in the 1940ies in Russia using trypanosoma extracts.

How difficult it is to prove the quantumness of macroscropic states?

open access: yes, 2014
General wisdom tells us that if two quantum states are ``macroscopically distinguishable'' then their superposition should be hard to observe. We make this intuition precise and general by quantifying the difficulty to observe the quantum nature of a ...

Combination Immunotherapy as a Promising Strategy to Overcome Immunotherapy Resistance: From Emergence to Next‐Generation Approaches

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review examines emerging combination immunotherapy strategies tailored to distinct tumor microenvironments and highlights next‐generation biomarkers that guide response prediction and treatment personalization. It integrates lessons from unsuccessful trials, addresses toxicity challenges, and outlines approaches for early biomarker discovery and ...

Bayes Model Selection with Path Sampling: Factor Models and Other Examples

open access: yes, 2013
We prove a theorem justifying the regularity conditions which are needed for Path Sampling in Factor Models. We then show that the remaining ingredient, namely, MCMC for calculating the integrand at each point in the path, may be seriously flawed ...

A Keratinocyte‐Mast Cell NF‐κB2/CXCL2/IL‐6 Amplification Loop Enhances Cutaneous Antifungal Defense Against C. albicans

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Mast cells (MCs), key innate immune sentinels at the host–environment interface, serve as primary responders to invading pathogens. However, their specific contribution to host defense against cutaneous Candida albicans (C. albicans) infection and their synergy with other immune and non‐immune cells remain poorly understood. Here, we show that
