Elastase Activity in Pancreatic Juice and Plasma of the Dog

Archives of Surgery, 1972
Elastase was found to be secreted in the pancreatic juice of the dog in its inactive, proelastase form in a concentration (control period) ranging between 400μg/ml to 500μg/ml. No active elastase was present. The pancreatic juice was found to contain an elastase inhibitor.

Inhaled porcine pancreatic elastase causes bronchoconstriction via a bradykinin-mediated mechanism.

Journal of applied physiology, 2000
Neutrophil elastase has been linked to inflammatory lung diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, adult respiratory distress syndrome, emphysema, and cystic fibrosis.

Serum elastase I levels in pancreatic disease

The American Journal of Surgery, 1982
The radioimmunoassay for human elastase I used in this study is accurate, sensitive, and specific, which we have confirmed. The assay can be done within 4 hours, which is important for clinical purposes. A total o 103 subjects were examined, and levels of 99 to 370 ng/dl (mean 200) in normal human sera were determined.

A prospective study of serum pancreatic elastase-1 in the diagnosis and assessment of acute pancreatitis.

Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology, 1998
BACKGROUND Serum amylase gives a poor estimate of both the true incidence and the severity of acute pancreatitis (AP). METHODS We evaluated serum pancreatic elastase-1 (PE-1) prospectively in 567 patients in whom AP was suspected.

Purification and Partial Characterization of Human Pancreatic Elastase

Hoppe-Seyler´s Zeitschrift für physiologische Chemie, 1976
1) An elastolytic enzyme has been isolated from human pancreatic juice. The concentration of the enzyme was about 0.6 mg/ml corresponding to about 10% of the protein concentration of the juice. 2) The purification procedure included chromatography on Sephadex G-25 followed by ion-exchange chromatography on SP-Sephadex C-50 at pH 6.0, affinity ...

Fecal pancreatic elastase in infants under 2 years of age.

Annales de Biologie Clinique, 2008
OBJECTIVES AND METHODS Fecal pancreatic elastase determination is of routine use in infant population presenting with a neonatal diagnosis of cystic fibrosis and in those with poor weight gain and growth, in order to precociously detect pancreatic ...

Stabilization of lyophilized porcine pancreatic elastase.

Pharmaceutical research, 1993
Porcine pancreatic elastase, a well-characterized serine protease, has been used as a model to assess the effects of excessive humidity on solid-state stability of the lyophilized protein. Elastase lyophilized without excipients retained full activity immediately after freeze-drying but became denatured upon continued storage at 40 degrees C, 75 ...

Effects of crude pancreatic elastase on serum haptoglobin

Clinica Chimica Acta, 1964
Abstract Elastase injected intravenously in rabbits produces up to a 7-fold rise in serum haptoglobin and a 2-fold rise in seromucoid (perchloric acid-soluble fraction). Unlike intravenous papain, elastase produces no rise in serum uronic acid, although in vitro cartilage is degraded by it.

Pancreatic Elastase: A Forgotten Hungarian Discovery

Pancreatology, 2007
nal [3] and Nature [4, 5] , and received 375 citations ( table 1 ). One could thus consider that the discovery of pancreatic elastase dates from 1949. These publications were forgotten/omitted for years and remained uncited by subsequent researchers. The reasons for this remains unknown.
