Pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy
Current Gastroenterology Reports, 2001Malabsorption due to severe pancreatic exocrine insufficiency is one of the most important late features of chronic pancreatitis. Generally, steatorrhea is more severe and occurs several years prior to malabsorption of other nutrients because synthesis and secretion of lipase are impaired more rapidly, its intraluminal survival is shorter, and the lack

Pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy in chronic pancreatitis
Best Practice & Research Clinical Gastroenterology, 2010Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) is a serious condition which occurs in several diseases including chronic pancreatitis (CP), cystic fibrosis, pancreatic cancer, and as a result of pancreatic surgery. The lack or absence of pancreatic enzymes leads to an inadequate absorption of fat, proteins, and carbohydrates, causing steatorrhoea and ...

Pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy.
The American journal of the medical sciences, 1989The relative efficacy of three commercial pancreatic enzyme supplements in improving fat absorption was studied using the [14C]triolein breath test in 12 patients with chronic pancreatitis. Two of the supplements were enteric coated. The one nonenteric coated product was studied twice: with and without ranitidine coadministration.

Intestinal Concentrations of Pancreatic Enzymes following Pancreatic Replacement Therapy
Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology, 1980The activities of amylase, lipase, phospholipase, and trypsin in four commercially available preparations of pancreatin with different galenic and adjunctive protective properties were estimated in vitro, using human small-intestinal juice as the incubation medium.

Pancreatic Enzyme Replacement Therapy During Pancreatic Insufficiency
Nutrition in Clinical Practice, 2014Pancreatic stimulation and therefore digestion is a tightly controlled and hormonally mediated process. Any alterations affecting any of the systematic steps for successful digestion and absorption to occur will impair appropriate pancreatic enzymatic secretion, entry into the bowel lumen, functionality once inside the lumen, and thus appropriate ...

Community Perspective on Pancreatic Enzyme Replacement Therapy in Cystic Fibrosis
Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, 2022People with cystic fibrosis (CF) and exocrine pancreatic insufficiency must take pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT) to prevent malnutrition and gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms. Finding better ways to manage GI complaints is a high priority for the CF community.

UK national guidelines recommend pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT) in pancreatic cancer. Over 80% of pancreatic cancers are unresectable and managed in non-surgical units. The aim was to assess variation in PERT prescribing, determine factors associated with its use and identify potential actions to improve prescription rates.RICOCHET was a ...

Digestive Enzyme Replacement Therapy: Pancreatic Enzymes and Lactase.
Medsurg nursing : official journal of the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses, 2017Maldigestion occurs when digestive enzymes are lacking to help break complex food components into absorbable nutrients within the gastrointestinal tract. Education is needed to help patients manage the intricacies of digestive enzyme replacement therapies and ensure their effectiveness in reducing symptoms of maldigestion.

Pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy in malabsorption of pancreatic, hepatic, and gastric origin
The American Journal of Digestive Diseases, 1962Malabsorption on a basis of pancreatico-hepatic disease is more common than usually considered. The symptoms of this type of malabsorption are usually not diarrhea, but may be more those of general weakness, flatulence, anorexia, weight loss, and abdominal discomfort.
