Pancreatic adaptive responses in alcohol abuse: Role of the unfolded protein response. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The majority of those who drink excessive amounts of alcohol do not develop pancreatic disease. One overarching hypothesis is that alcohol abuse requires additional risk factors, either environmental or genetic, for disease to occur.

Efficacy of omega‐3 fatty acids as a functional food: a multifaceted approach to health reinforcement

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract Omega‐3 fatty acids (omega‐3s) are polyunsaturated fatty acids linked with numerous health benefits. Omega‐3s exhibit multifaceted activities through various mechanisms. Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) alleviates oxidative stress by lowering reactive oxygen species and improving oxidative stress in brain tissues and acts against neurodegenerative ...

Purification of pancreatic lipase via its affinity for bile salts and apolar surfaces.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1978
An improved method for the purification of pancreatic lipase in milligram amounts is described. Only one batch step and one chromatographic step are required to produce a lipase-colipase complex and a lipase largely free of colipase.

Comparative effects of superheated steam and hot air roasting on the in vitro phospholipase A2 inhibitory activity and polyphenol composition of cocoa beans

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Cocoa, derived from Theobroma cacao, is a popular food ingredient used to produce chocolate. Cocoa is rich in polyphenols and human and laboratory model studies have indicated that cocoa and chocolate can mitigate chronic inflammatory conditions.

Purification of rat pancreatic lipase

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1968
A procedure for the isolation of lipase (glycerolester hydrolase, EC 3.1.1.3) from rat pancreas is described. The purification scheme includes homogenization of the pancreas, centrifugation at 3,000 rpm, centrifugation at 40,000 rpm, DEAE-cellulose chromatography, precipitation of amylase as the amylase-glycogen complex, gel filtration of the amylase ...

Chewable Soft Gelatin Capsules: Design and Formulation Strategies for a Patient‐Preferred Dosage Alternative

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, EarlyView.
Chewable softgels are a patient‐preferred alternative to conventional oral forms, offering pleasant taste, fast onset, and suitability for children or patients with swallowing difficulties. However, they present relevant challenges in their formulation: the shell must balance chewability, machinability, and stability, while the fill must mask the ...
