Pancreatic Extract Lipase Activity

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1993
To the Editor. —The use of pancreatic enzyme extracts has decreased maldigestion of fat, as well as macronutrients and micronutrients due to pancreatic insufficiency and alleviated various abdominal symptoms, including steatorrhea, pain associated with alcohol-induced chronic pancreatitis, and distal intestinal obstruction.

Congenital pancreatic lipase deficiency

The Journal of Pediatrics, 1980
A 5 1/2-year-old boy is reported with congenital lipase deficiency and the presence of colipase. He presented with greasy-oily stools since infancy, but growth and development have been normal. No other cause for exocrine pancreatic insufficiency could be found.

Mechanism of pancreatic lipase action. 1. Interfacial activation of pancreatic lipase

Biochemistry, 1976
Hydrolysis of dissolved p-nitrophenyl acetate by pancreatic lipase follows the classical acyl enzyme pathway already proposed for other esterases. Kinetic parameters of the hydrolysis have been determined. The turnover rate of the reaction is many orders of magnitude slower than that for the natural emulsified substrates.

Human pancreatic lipase: A glycoprotein

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Protein Structure, 1977
Human lipase has been purified from pancreatic juice. The protein has a molecular weight of 48 000 and an N-terminal residue of lysine. It has been characterized as a glycoprotein containing 4.7 mol of glucosamine, 2.8 mol of mannose, 2.9 mol of fucose, 3.0 mol. of galactose and 1.1 mol of glucose per mol of protein.
