Research in Veterinary Science, 1968SUMMARY The propagation of hovine parainfluenza 3 (PI3) virus, and the preparation of a PI3 vaccine inactivated with perchlorethylene and adsorbed to aluminium hydroxide, is described. American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1972SUMMARY Bovine parainfluenza 3 (pi-3) virus was isolated from an aborted bovine fetus, and the recovered agent was subsequently inoculated in 6 bovine fetuses at midgestation. Of the 6 fetuses, 4 were surgically removed 6, 10, 20, and 35 days after inoculation and 2 died and were aborted 46 and 56 days after inoculation.

Research in Veterinary Science, 1977Bovine circulating lymphocytes from animals sero-positive to parainfluenza-3 virus (PIV-3) could be stimulated by PIV-3 antigen in a microculture system. A semiautomatic multiple sample harvester was used to collect the lymphocytes from the microplates. Ultraviolet-killed PIV-3 induced better stimulation values than formalin or heat-treated virus.

Nature, 1964A BOVINE strain of myxovirus parainfluenza-3 was first isolated by Reisinger et al.1 in cultures of embryonic bovine kidney cells. Recently, isolates have been made by intra-amniotic inoculation of 14-day-old chick embryos2; but evidence of a successful isolation was only obtained by titration of the amniotic fluids on embryonic bovine kidney cells.

Antibody and complement-mediated cytotoxicity for bovine parainfluenza-3 virus-infected cells
American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1984SUMMARY An antibody-complement-mediated cytotoxicity assay was employed to determine whether susceptible host cells infected with bovine parainfluenza-3 virus could be destroyed by the humoral immune mechanism. The cytotoxicity assay yielded 21.5% to 76.9% specific release of 51Cr with sera collected from calves 28 days after inoculation with the virus.
