Transcriptome analysis of the gonads of olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus)
Fish Physiology and Biochemistry, 2016Olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) is an economically important cultured marine fish in China, Korea, and Japan. Controlling and managing the breeding of olive flounder in captivity is an imperative step toward obtaining a sustainable supply of this fish in aquaculture production systems.

Interspecific reciprocal crosses between the two flatfishes Paralichthys olivaceus and P. dentatus yielded hybrids with different viabilities. Specifically, the hybrids of P. olivaceus female and P. dentatus male (HI) were found to be viable, while the reciprocal hybrids from P. dentatus female and P. olivaceus male (HII) were completely inviable.

Japanese Flounder Paralichthys olivaceus
2017Fish production with closed recirculation systems, which makes reduced discharge of organic and inorganic wastes possible, is considered to be one of the promising approaches for sustainable development of aquaculture. We conducted research on the closed production of Japanese flounder Paralichthys olivaceus since 1986 and obtained information to ...

Functional characterization of an MPEG1 homologue from Paralichthys olivaceus
Fish & Shellfish ImmunologyMPEG1 (macrophage-expressed gene 1) is a membrane attack complex/perforin (MACPF) superfamily protein implicated in antimicrobial defense, yet its functional mechanisms in teleost fish remain poorly understood. In this study, we identified and characterized an MPEG1 homologue (PoMPEG1) from Paralichthys olivaceus (Japanese flounder).

Myostatin (MSTN) as a negative regulator of muscle growth has been identified in Japanese flounder. Yet, most fish experienced the teleost specific genome duplication and possess at least two mstn genes. In current study, the second mstn gene named Pomstna is identified in Japanese flounder.

Larval morphometry of the Japanese flounder,Paralichthys olivaceus
Ichthyological Research, 1997The larval development of the Japanese flounder,Paralichthys olivaceus, was surveyed using two types of morphometric analyses, modified allometry and polar coordinate analysis by principal component analysis (PCA). In the former, centroid size was used as a growth index instead of total length (TL), such enabling the determination of more detailed ...

Sox2 plays an essential role in maintaining the pluripotency of embryonic and neural stem cells as well as in the neurogenesis. While it has been well studied in mammals, information from lower invertebrate especially marine fish is still limited. In this study, we cloned and sequenced the full-length cDNA and partial 5'-flanking region of the Japanese

Characterization and expression of StAR2a and StAR2b in the olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus
Gene, 2017Steroidogenic acute regulatory protein 2 (StAR2) is a key protein in transporting cholesterol from the outer mitochondria membrane to the inner mitochondria membrane for sex steroid synthesis. In this study, two StAR2 gene isoforms, StAR2a and StAR2b, were isolated from the olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus gonads.

Toxicity and protective efficiency of cryoprotectants to flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) embryos
Theriogenology, 2005With the purpose of finding an ideal cryoprotectant or combination of cryoprotectants in a suitable concentration for flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) embryo cryopreservation, we tested the toxicities, at culture temperature (16 degrees C), of five most commonly used cryoprotectants-dimethyl sulfoxide (Me2SO), glycerol, methanol (MeOH), 1,2-propylene ...
