Effect of Fishmeal Content in the Diet on the Growth and Sexual Maturation of Olive Flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) at a Typical Fish Farm

open access: yesAnimals, 2021
Olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) is a commercially important and valuable species for aquaculture in Korea. Due to the unstable supply of fishmeal for farmed fish, an optimum fish-feed formulation should be researched to ensure the sustainability ...

Expanding the Fish‐Brain Invitrome With the Senegalese Sole SsB‐1 Cell Line—A Versatile Model for Neurotropic Virus Research

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Cell lines are essential tools for studying animal physiology and immunopathology, reducing the use of live animals and supporting the 3Rs principle of reduction, refinement, and replacement. The Senegalese sole (Solea senegalensis), a relevant species for Spanish aquaculture diversification, lacks established in vitro models. We developed SsB‐

Evidence for Paralichthys olivaceus IFITM1 antiviral effect by impeding viral entry into target cells

open access: yes, 2013
Interferon-inducible transmembrane (IFITM) protein family is novel viral restriction factors with representative transmembrane structure. These proteins also exist in fish, however, their roles in the innate immune response remain unknown.

The Auditory Threshold of the Bastard Halibut Paralichthys olivaceus.

open access: yesNIPPON SUISAN GAKKAISHI, 1996
Using a classical respiratory conditioning technique, the hearing ability of the bastard halibut Paralichthys olivaceus was measured for 7 fish at 7 frequency points between 70Hz and 500Hz. The conditioning response was measured as suppression in the respiratory activity by the piezoelectric sensor fitted on a gill cover in a quiet water tank.

Genetic Linkage Map of Olive Flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Biological Sciences, 2008
Olive flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus, is an important fish species in Asia, both for fisheries and aquaculture. As the first step for better understanding the genomic structure and functional analysis, we constructed a genetic linkage map for olive flounder based on 180 microsatellites and 31 expressed sequence tag (EST)-derived markers.

L‐Glutamine Plus L‐Glutamic Acid Enhances Antioxidant Status and Ammonia Toxicity Resilience, Upregulates Interleukin IL‐10 Gene, and Improves Gut Microbiota and Survival in Juvenile Nile Tilapia

open access: yesJournal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Glutamine (Gln) and glutamic acid (Glu) are the most abundant free amino acids (AAs) in the fish body. Although classified as non‐essential AAs, their supplementation can be a strategy to optimize the growth performance and health of fish.

Differential expression of three Paralichthys olivaceus Hsp40 genes in responses to virus infection and heat shock

open access: yes, 2006
Heat shock proteins (Hsps) are a family of highly conserved cellular proteins present in all organisms, mediating a range of essential housekeeping and cytoprotective functions as well-known molecular chaperons and recently as regulators of the immune ...

Decoding the Black Box of Fish Vaccines Efficacy in Basic and Applied Contexts

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 18, Issue 4, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Vaccines are the frontline defense in aquaculture, yet predicting their real‐world performance remains a tricky puzzle. Unlike terrestrial veterinary vaccines, fish vaccines largely operate through “Black Box” processes, where we observe the outcomes but rarely understand the underlying immune mechanisms. Laboratory trials, though informative,

Growth and histomorphological responses of Chindongo socolofi to the long‐term replacement of fish meal with defatted Tenebrio molitor meal

open access: yesJournal of the World Aquaculture Society, Volume 57, Issue 4, August 2026.
Abstract The long‐term suitability of defatted Tenebrio molitor larvae meal (TM) as a substitute for fish meal (FM) protein was evaluated in Chindongo socolofi over a 170‐day feeding period. Six isonitrogenous (38% crude protein) and isoenergetic (4396 kcal kg−1) diets were formulated, in which TM protein replaced FM protein at 0% (control), 20%, 40 ...

Genoma mitocondrial completo del lenguado de California, Paralichthys californicus

open access: yesCiencias Marinas, 2020
El lenguado de California, Paralichthys californicus, es una especie de pez plano con un alto valor econónico debido a su tamaño y a la calidad de su carne. En este trabajo se presenta el genoma mitocondrial completo de P. californicus.
