Active Compliant Parallel Mechanisms

Volume 5A: 38th Mechanisms and Robotics Conference, 2014
In a novel compliant parallel mechanism, a motor and spring are arranged in a parallel fashion and are connected to a movable lever arm. The motor pushes and pulls on one attachment point and the spring stores and releases energy at a second attachment point.

Mechanisms for Parallel Data Transport

2012
Evolving paradigms of parallel transport mechanisms are necessary to satisfy the ever increasing need of high performing communication systems. Parallel transport mechanisms can be described as a technique to send several data simultaneously using several parallel channels.

Intuitive Physical Human-Robot Interaction: Using a Passive Parallel Mechanism

IEEE robotics & automation magazine, 2018
In this article, we propose a novel passive mechanism and a macro?mini architecture for effective and intuitive physical human?robot interaction (pHRI). The macro?mini concept allows the use of a mini low-impedance passive (LIP) mechanism to effortlessly

Compliant Parallel-Guiding Mechanisms

Volume 2A: 24th Biennial Mechanisms Conference, 1996
Abstract The rigid-link parallel-guiding (or parallelogram) mechanism is perhaps one of the simplest closed-loop mechanisms to analyze. Compliant parallel-guiding mechanisms, often called plate-spring mechanisms, are in common use in many applications. Advances in compliant mechanism modeling and synthesis have provided an opportunity to

Conceptual design and dimensional synthesis of a novel parallel mechanism for lower-limb rehabilitation

Robotica (Cambridge. Print), 2018
SUMMARY This paper introduces a novel 2R1T parallel manipulator redundantly actuated by pneumatic muscles for lower-limb rehabilitation. First, the conceptual design of the proposed 3-DOF parallel mechanism is presented.

Classification of Parallel Mechanisms

2013
This chapter provides a systematic classification of parallel mechanisms based upon the latest research on the architectures of parallel mechanism. The list will be classified by increasing numbers of degrees of freedom, from 2 to 6, companied with the motion pattern of the mobile platform. Various mechanical architectures of parallel mechanism will be

Workspace of Parallel Mechanisms

2013
This chapter deals with a geometric determination of the theoretical and usable workspace for a parallel mechanism. Several parallel mechanisms including a planar 5R parallel mechanism, a DELTA mechanism, several 3-DOF spatial parallel mechanisms, and 6-RUS parallel mechanism are illustrated.

Singularity of Parallel Mechanisms

2013
This chapter covers the singularity analysis of parallel mechanisms. The singularities of parallel mechanisms are classified into three types. For the first type of singularity, the mechanism loses 1 or more DOFs, while for the second type of singularity, the mechanism gains 1 or more DOFs. The third type of singularity occurs when the first and second

A Parallel Mechanism for Describing Silhouettes

IEEE Transactions on Computers, 1972
We describe a parallel mechanism, based on an array of circularly nutating photodetectors, that computes an approximation of the density of slopes of the boundary of any piecewise regular silhouette. This density, when properly normalized, is invariant with respect to the size, translation, and orientation of the given silhouette.
