Important role of genetic drift in rapid polygenic adaptation

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2020
We analyzed a model to determine the factors that facilitate or limit rapid polygenic adaptation. This model includes population genetic terms of mutation and both directional and stabilizing selection on a highly polygenic trait in a diploid population ...

Adaptive estimation of speech parameters [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of COMSIG '94 - 1994 South African Symposium on Communications and Signal Processing, 2002
Linear predictive coding (LPC), and transformations of it, is currently the most popular way of analysing speech signals. Major limitations of using a frame-based technique are that each frame is analysed in isolation of the rest while assuming the excitation source to be a white noise process.

Adenosine‐to‐inosine editing of miR‐200b‐3p is associated with the progression of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A‐to‐I editing of miRNAs, particularly miR‐200b‐3p, contributes to HGSOC progression by enhancing cancer cell proliferation, migration and 3D growth. The edited form is linked to poorer patient survival and the identification of novel molecular targets.

Parameter efficient speaker adaptation for enhancement of bone-conducted speech [PDF]

open access: yesJASA Express Letters
Bone conducted speech (BCS) signals have reduced intelligibility and quality due to a limited frequency response and speaker-specific distortion introduced by bone conduction pathways.

Memory-based Parameter Adaptation

open access: yes, 2018
Deep neural networks have excelled on a wide range of problems, from vision to language and game playing. Neural networks very gradually incorporate information into weights as they process data, requiring very low learning rates. If the training distribution shifts, the network is slow to adapt, and when it does adapt, it typically performs badly on ...

PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells enhances bortezomib sensitivity in multiple myeloma cells by altering their metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigated how PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) indirectly affects multiple myeloma (MM) cell metabolism and viability. Culturing MM cells in conditioned medium from PYCR1‐silenced BMSCs impaired oxidative phosphorylation and increased sensitivity to bortezomib.

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

PARAMETER ADAPTATION FOR ANT COLONY SYSTEM IN WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORK

open access: yesJournal of ICT, 2019
The Ant Colony System (ACS) algorithm has been applied in solving packet routing problems in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). Solving these problems is complicated as packets need to be submitted through sensor nodes which are spatially distributed and ...

Patient‐specific pharmacogenomics demonstrates xCT as predictive therapeutic target in colon cancer with possible implications in tumor connectivity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates transcriptomic profiling of matched tumor and healthy tissues from 32 colorectal cancer patients with functional validation in patient‐derived organoids, revealing dysregulated metabolic programs driven by overexpressed xCT (SLC7A11) and SLC3A2, identifying an oncogenic cystine/glutamate transporter signature linked to ...

Harmony Search Based Parameter Ensemble Adaptation for Differential Evolution

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2013
In differential evolution (DE) algorithm, depending on the characteristics of the problem at hand and the available computational resources, different strategies combined with a different set of parameters may be effective.
