Traffic microsimulation for smart cities: Investigating the impact of objective function formulation on calibration efficiency

open access: yesIET Smart Cities
Traffic microsimulation models are crucial for intelligent transportation systems evaluation, but careful parameter calibration is required for credible pre‐ and post‐ITS comparisons.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Parameter Subset Selection for Power System Model Calibration Using Both Sensitivity and Identifiability

open access: yesIEEE Access
In power systems, it is essential to ensure that the dynamic model predictions align with the actual measurements, which is usually achieved through model calibration.

An Empirical Calibration of the Mixing‐Length Parameter α [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2006
We present an empirical calibration of the Mixing-Length free parameter $α$ based on a homogeneous Infrared database of 28 Galactic globular clusters spanning a wide metallicity range (-2.15$

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Dose‐dependent hepatotoxicity of hydrogen peroxide in HepG2 cells and its modulation by CYP450 induction

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
NMR metabolomics revealed concentration‐dependent metabolic perturbations in HepG2 cells exposed to H2O2. Rifampicin pretreatment enhanced metabolic competence, attenuated toxin‐induced alterations and produced metabolite profiles more consistent with human liver physiology, supporting the use of CYP450‐induced HepG2 models for improved in vitro ...

Accelerating Point Cloud Computation via Memory in Embedded Structured Light Cameras

open access: yesJournal of Imaging
Embedded structured light cameras have been widely applied in various fields. However, due to constraints such as insufficient computing resources, it remains difficult to achieve high-speed structured light point cloud computation. To address this issue,

Calibration of Parameters for Radio-Frequency Ablation Simulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We consider the simulation of the thermal and electrical processes, involved in the radio-frequency (RF) ablation procedure. RF ablation is a low invasive technique for the treatment of hepatic tumors, utilizing AC current to destroy the tumor cells by heating. The procedure consists of inserting an RF probe in the patients liver and attaching a ground
