Cerebral spinal fluid abnormalities in patients with paraneoplastic syndromes of the nervous system
Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry, 2009Paraneoplastic syndromes of the nervous system (PNS) are neurological disorders associated with cancer, not caused by metastases or indirect effects such as complications of therapy. Although PNS are uncommon, they are an important as they frequently cause significant neurological morbidity. As PNS often antedate the diagnosis of the underlying cancer,

A 17-year-old boy, with acute myelomonocytic leukemia and inversion 16(p13q22) developed polyneuropathy and isolated central nervous system relapse. Scoliosis and high-arched feet suggested a diagnosis of Charcot Marie Tooth (CMT) syndrome and genetic testing confirmed duplication at the PMP22 locus at chromosome 17p11.12.

Paraneoplastic syndromes of the nervous system: manifestations of the occult and the obvious.
Missouri medicine, 1991Cancer patients are plagued by a wide variety of medical problems, among them paraneoplastic syndromes of the nervous system. The authors present a review of some of the syndromes these patients endure.

Topical Review Article: Nervous System Dysfunction in Children With Paraneoplastic Syndromes
Journal of Child Neurology, 1992Paraneoplastic syndromes are complexes of symptoms and signs that occur in association with cancer and that are unexplained by the known anatomic and physiologic characteristics of the tumor. Many of these syndromes are neurologic in nature or have consequences for the central or peripheral nervous system.

Clinical and pathological advances on central nervous system paraneoplastic syndromes.
Revue neurologique, 1992In the last decade, several features have improved our knowledge of CNS paraneoplastic syndromes. Patients with paraneoplastic cerebellar degeneration (PCD) and breast or ovarian cancer, but not with other tumors, harbor an antibody against Purkinje cells (called anti-Yo).

In the last decade, anti-neurons autoantibodies have been found in serum and cerebro spinal fluid of patients suffering from neurological paraneoplastic syndrome. This discovery has made possible to improve the knowledge of these syndromes as well as to characterize some proteins specific to the nervous system, unknown until now.

Pathogenesis of central nervous system paraneoplastic syndromes.
Revue neurologique, 1992The pathogenesis of central nervous system paraneoplastic syndromes has not been established. Increasing evidence supports the hypothesis that CNS paraneoplastic syndromes are immune disorders arising from an immune response to the underlying neoplasm.
