Cryptic Splicing of GAP43 mRNA is a Novel Hallmark of TDP‐43‐Associated ALS and AD

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
TDP‐43 dysfunction disrupts RNA processing, inducing cryptic exon 4a1 inclusion in GAP43 and reducing its protein levels. This aberrant splicing impairs axonal regeneration and contributes to neurodegeneration in ALS and AD. RNA‐seq of patient brains reveals GAP43 downregulation and 4a1 upregulation, identifying cryptic exon 4a1 as a potential ...

Varenicline: A new pharmacotherapy for smoking cessation in primary care practice

open access: yesSouth African Family Practice, 2011
Background: Cigarette smoking causes significant morbidity and mortality and is a major public health concern worldwide. Primary care doctors are in a unique position that enables them to promote smoking cessation, as smokers are more aware of their ...

Ractopamine HCl improved cardiac hypertrophy but not poor growth, metabolic inefficiency, or greater white blood cells associated with heat stress in concentrate-fed lambs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Heat stress decreases livestock performance and well-being (Hahn, 1999; Nienaber and Hahn, 2007), causes metabolic dysfunction that decreases growth efficiency (O’Brien et al., 2010), and alters cardiovascular function (Crandall et al., 2008). Each year,

Enhanced Media Optimize Bovine Myogenesis in 2D and 3D Models for Cultivated Meat Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study uses multiomics approaches to characterize bovine myogenesis in vitro, identifying media components that enhance myogenic progenitor cell differentiation in 2D and 3D models. Notably, the enhanced conditions promoted formation of unique cell populations and contractile muscle cells expressing mature myogenic markers.

Hypoglycemia Induces Diabetic Macrovascular Endothelial Dysfunction via Endothelial Cell PANoptosis, Macrophage Polarization, and VSMC Fibrosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study investigates hypoglycemia‐induced diabetic macrovascular endothelial dysfunction. It reveals that hypoglycemia triggers ZBP1‐dependent PANoptosis of endothelial cells, proinflammatory polarization of macrophages, and fibrosis of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) in diabetic mice.

Characterization of Gαs and Gαolf activation by catechol and non-catechol dopamine D1 receptor agonists

open access: yesiScience
Summary: The dopamine D1 receptor (D1R) couples to Gαs and Gαolf and is crucial in regulating neurological and neuropsychiatric functions. In the brain, Gαolf is predominantly found in the striatum whereas Gαs is expressed elsewhere.

Dwell time of a Brownian interacting molecule in a cellular microdomain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The time spent by an interacting Brownian molecule inside a bounded microdomain has many applications in cellular biology, because the number of bounds is a quantitative signal, which can initiate a cascade of chemical reactions and thus has ...
