Investigation on the Influence of Protein Corona and Platelet Adhesion on Storage Bag Surface on the Platelet Storage Lesion

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Platelet quality deteriorates during storage due to protein and platelet adhesion to current bag materials. Here, polymer coatings are identified that reduce adhesion and translated them to mini‐storage bags. Platelet quality are not impacted, despite significantly reducing adhesion.

A fluorophore attached to nicotinic acetylcholine receptor beta M2 detects productive binding of agonist to the alpha delta site [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
To study conformational transitions at the muscle nicotinic acetylcholine (ACh) receptor (nAChR), a rhodamine fluorophore was tethered to a Cys side chain introduced at the beta-19' position in the M2 region of the nAChR expressed in Xenopus oocytes ...

Hooray for Hypoxia? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The mortality of critically ill patients rises steadily as the partial pressure of arterial oxygen falls below about 11 kPa (80 mm Hg). A new animal study in the May 2005 issue of PLoS Biology showing a potential benefit for hypoxia is thus a challenge ...

Serotonin system implication in L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia: from animal models to clinical investigations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In the recent years, the serotonin system has emerged as a key player in the induction of l-DOPA-induced dyskinesia (LID) in animal models of Parkinson's disease. In fact, serotonin neurons possess the enzymatic machinery able to convert exogenous l-DOPA
